Alcoholics 7 year sobriety = wife approved 7MM

I was working on the assumption that "sheriff" meant wife.

SO, Covelo, does that mean that next year you get an 8mm mauser? The year after that a 9mm carbine?

Seriously though, congrats and major kudos to you for turning things around and taking control. It's damn impressive.

Weatherby's stock design helps reduce felt recoil. For instance, the Monte Carlo cheek piece moves away from your face as the rifle recoils.

OP, have you considered a 7-08 for something different?
 
Ten years sober here, and I own a Model 70 7mm Mag, that I absolutely adore, and would never willingly part with.
 
I like my M70's and don't think you would go wrong with one. I would also look at the Browning X-bolt, mine is consistently accurate with a variety of loads, also it is quite light, but handles recoil very well.

Recently I've had a hankering for a Sako A7 Roughtech, I haven't shot one, but they fit me well and have a lot of nice features. I would definitely take a look if I was in the market for a ~$1k rifle.

Good on your sobriety. For a rifle I would by one of these. They charge $15 to ship to you FFL and ship pronto. They come with rings and they are known to be very accurate with Ruger's hammer forged barrels. Throw on a 3-9X Leupold VX-2 scope and you are good to go for it all at less than a grand. BTW, I hunted outside Ukiah a few times many years ago. Growing up we had a cabin on some acreage outside Pt. Arena.

I am sincerely in your honor for those of you congratulating me and my accomplishment. Long story short I found sobriety and 2009 after my son passed away. He was two and died in my arms, the had spinal meningitis I didn't even know it.

The sheriff who I mentioned in the story came to see me when I was incarcerated weeks after my sons death--to be totally honest he actually chase me around my local town (Covelo-ca) when he was just a street beat cop.

When I was in a jail cell weeks after my son passed the sheriff of Mendocino County : Tom Allman came to me and he said that he was sorry for what it happened to me-- he offered if I had ever turn my life around he would to support me.

He actually advocated for me to the DOJ for a felony reduction, wrote a letter to Supreme Court, convinced probation to give me a second chance and has watch me graduate from the community college in which I now work for. He gave me a CCW!

Life is full of challenges twists and turns of each and every corner. I love guns like to shoot them --I think I like to shoot them just so I can clean them--

I'm studying to become a drug and alcohol counselor and look forward to working with people I like to teach young kids up to the gun range in them take the hunter safety class and teach them how to cite in rifles and shoot Small groups if we can or just hitting the still clang!!!
 
Covelo . Sounds like you have a * real * Sheriff out there .. someone to be cherished by the entire community . And another Congrats on the Sobriety along with best wishes for your new rifle .

I have personal experience with the Winchester, Weatherby, and Ruger products. The Model 70, Vanguards, and M77s show up in my collection and are the flagships of their respective manufactures. Any of these choices will be hard to criticize. Good luck with whichever rifle you select, a lot of good recommendations have been offered by previous posts.


Congtrats on your sobriety and getting things turned around. Here's to keeping it rolling in that direction for you.

Congrats on your sobriety. I don't hunt. I buy my dead animals at the grocery store. Remington fan here.

My 8 year is coming up July 14th.
If had known how much more shooting and reloading I was going to do I probably would have stopped sooner.

I read this a few times and withheld commenting but I must remind you ....

A dear friend of mine would have had 8 years on July 3, 2015 but he abused painkillers he got from a recent knee replacement.
He got honest about it and is back on the beam with less than two weeks of sobriety now.

Best try and make it through today and I am glad that you have been given so many One Day at a Times thus far. If you do that you'll maybe be lucky to see another anniversary and I hope you do, and get that nice rifle 7mm as a present.
 
Must be about 25 years ago I got a Ruger 77 MKII in 7mm Remington Magnum. Left hand bolt action too. Guessing it has been 10 years since I have shot that rifle and have a mountain of factory ammunition for it. I have noticed at 65 there are several rifles I tend to shoot less and that leads the pack. Really great caliber just for me anymore, punishing to shoot.

I guess depending on where you plan to hunt and exposure to the elements will decide the finish, walnut or synthetic, stainless or blued. Maybe some of the newer rifles have improved in the recoil department? Unless my son wants that rifle it is likely time for me to part with it. Great cartridge once again but I don't hunt like I once did and have no desire at all to take that rifle out for a day at the range. :)

For hunting I don't see you going wrong with a Ruger, Winchester, Remington, Sako or any of a number of others. More a matter of what appeals to you and what shoots well for you.

Finally, guns and ammo aside, congratulations on the sobriety milestone.

Congratulations on your 7 years ! June 20, I had 31 years of sobriety, AA works wonders if you work it. Any rifle you choose will be your reward.
 
Congratulations on your 7 yrs, Have several friends who have 7mm good caliber, I have been a Remington fan all my life, Until now, They are cheap built are nothing like they were 15 yrs ago. In my opinion you buy one get ready to spend some money trying to make it like the old ones. I have since bought 3 savages and so far they have not disappointed me in function and are as accurate as the Remington's of old. Their Customer Service that I have never used but have been told is fantastic. I did bring up a concern over their proprietary magazines and was told if I have Any trouble at all just contact them and they will take care of it. Remington wont even talk to you. JMHO

I have a SAKO FinnBear. Been shooting it for close to 50 years. Still shoots ½" or better.
If I were buying to day I would try to find a TC Icon in 7mm Rem mag. with a floorplate.
They stopped making them a few years ago but they deliver.
I have 3 in various calibers and all shoot ½" or better. Sometimes that good at 200 yds.
 
I too have an almost 50-year-old Sako Finnbear L61R. It's a beautiful piece of work and a wonderful shooter.
