I was wondering about headspace requirements on swapping barrels on a Winchester 190. Is it the same as a centerfire, which means taking it to a gunsmith for me or is it something the average Joe can do?

Thanks,

Scott

The headspace on that rifle is set by the recess in the barrel and bolt face so go ahead with the swap.

It was a mass produced .22 RF.

Winchester didn't sick a special team of hand-fitters on every one they made to set the headspace.

Go ahead and swap barrels.

Headspace won't be an issue unless your bolt is totally worn out.

I'd put a bit of blue thread locker on the barrel collar when you install it to the barrel threads, it's not uncommon with that model for them to loosen up after awhile and start causing FTFs (due to long headspace).
