Do You Have an Excellent Handgun that was Inexpensive?

There are Taurus haters but every Taurus I've both is a winner in my book. The first was a 669 in 1988 I bought new for $85. I'm a sucker for good deals. Bought 2 S&W Model 10 NRA VG to EX for $100 each a few years ago. I got a wartime Walther PP that had later been nickel plated (no collector value) for $150. There's been many more deals I've gotten.

Best deal I've seen though a friend got about 10 years ago. Someone was liquidating a relative's estate. He had several handguns. A friend offered 300 for a refinished 1911 made in 1918. The guy told him he could have all the guns for that price. My friend got the 1911, a new S&W 64, and a new Charter 38 all for 300.

I got a Bresa 380 from a friend for $100. I still have it. It's an excellent shooter and reliable as a rotweiller. Another friend gave me a new set of fingergroove grips for it. Made it even better!

Not exactly inexpensive, but I bought a Sig P6 fives years ago when the trade-ins came. Think it was around $380.

My SIG P225 with 4 mags cost me $319.00 about 6 years ago. My NIB Satin Chrome BHP 9mm was $389.00 7 yrs ago. My S&W 27-2 6" bbl. cost me $275.00 about 10 yrs. ago. Still have the SIG & the BHP, but I miss that N-frame!

.357 Ruger Police Service-Six (4" blued 99%) for $180 in 1997 (Bought it on my 21st B-Day)

.357 S&W Model 28-2 (6" blued 99%) for $275 in 1998.

Paid $199 for a used 38 special Windicator with 4" bbl a few months ago. No scratches, looks almost new.

Colt Trooper Mk III estate sale. Cleaned up old grease in the works, changed trigger and hammer spring . Shoots like a dream.

About 2 years ago I guy I go to church with showed up at the range with a S&W 4006. Nothing special about that particular gun but I have always wanted one. I let him know I’d always wanted one and long story short he walked into church the next day and offered it me for 200.00 $

I have three that I paid $150 for each, in or about the late 1990's :

1. Colt Police Positive 4", 99.6 % condition.
2. S&W Model 10-6, 4" bull barrel, with original grips and grip adapter, 98%.
3. S&W pre-model 10, M&P 5", 96%.

Back in the mid-90s the conversion of police departments from revolvers to semiautos happened. Suddenly nobody wanted revolvers and people were practically giving them away. I got a mint S&W 14 8 3/8", TT, TH, TS, TG, the works for $250. A mint 6" S&W Target Masterpiece for $300. What is now the Holy Grail - a like new Royal Blue Colt Python, with box, papers, original grips for a price so low I'm embarrassed to mention it. Let's just say it was a tiny fraction of what they go for now. The last was this early S&W model 34, built on the tiny I frame and misidentified as a Model 17:



I almost did myself an injury whipping out my wallet on this one. The gun shop owner was suspicious because I didn't even try to haggle, but he couldn't very well turn me down either.

Best bang for the buck you can find in a pistol (pun intended).

Got my East German for $109 about 4 years ago on the uses rack at Cableas. I think they must have mis-makred it it should be been about 3 times that price if not more...

Got a Bulgarian Mak in the early 2000's for $129.99

These guns are accurate and reliable, you really can't go wrong with one...

Bought a RIA 1911 Tactical .45 from a now-former co-worker a few years ago that eats everything I've fed it. - $400.
Bought a S&W M64 4" bull barrel from a fellow THR member about a year-and-a-half ago. - $250.

All the rest of my handguns are S&W bought new at S&W prices.

Llama "Especial" 45 Automatic. Ugly 1911 lookalike that has never failed to go bang. $70 NIB circa 1967.

Three different Hi Points all purchased at a pawn shop for $75-$90 each. 2 in 9mm and a 45. All three are 100% reliable.

I got this for $200 last year. Friends and family deal. Smith 10-6 with these plastic grips. It shoots well and feels good but I may get some different grips.

I think my Sig 2022 was a bargain at $399 brand new.
Great shooter with a fine trigger.

I purchased a smith 19 from a member on here. His description of its condition was "average" and sold it to me for a very reasonable price.

Apparently the definition of "average" varies from person to person, and area to area. when my LGS received the pistol, he was extremely jealous of the price I paid vs condition.

remains the best value purchase I've made to date. Sorely wish I had bought the 66 that he had as well. That remains one of my stupidest decisions to date.

To be clear I actually AM a Taurus fanboy...

Of the 50+ firearms I've purchased over the years the $200 Taurus M82 4" blued six-shot .38 spl used police service revolver is the best value... And I've had some great $200 guns (polish P-64, etc)

I've had no more trouble with my Tauri than I've had with Sigs and a few other brands

The Taurus M82 has-
-Buttery smooth SA/DA trigger
-Accurate and reliable
-A wonderful point and shoot feel

The older M82's have a great (deservedly so) reputation
