New G19 Gen4!

Here is the new addition to my carry rotation. Glock 19 Gen4, purchased from Grab-A-Gun for $539.00. Even after shipping and FFL fee I was all-in for around $565.00 I thought that was a pretty good deal.

I have a High-Noon custom OWB holster on order, but that won't be in for a few weeks yet. So I got one of the cheapie Glock Sport-Combat holsters from Amazon for $14.00. The thing is cheap, but it just plain works! The gun fits securely and the holster causes the gun to ride high and tight to the body for excellent concealment. It will suffice in the meantime until my High-Noon gets here. I only carry my guns OWB, as IWB just doesn't feel comfortable to me. I may have to re-visit that however, at least with my Shield and CW380.

The 4 extra backstraps that the gun comes with will be a great way to custom-fit the gun to my hand once I figure out which one works best. The installation procedure is simple and elegant, using only 1 pin.

I also installed the butt-plug that I got from Glockmeister. It gives the gun a more finished look, IMHO.

I took it the range for the first time on Sunday after field stripping and cleaning and lube. Ran about 150 rounds through it, combination of Freedom Munitions 124gr. FMJ reman. and HST 124gr. JHP which is my regular carry ammo. The gun ran flawlessly, without a hiccup. Fits my hand well, and points intuitively. The factory sights were dead-nuts on right out of the box.

This is my first Glock, and I really like it! My next purchase will be a G30S , and then possibly a G26. I'm not interested in the G43, as my Shield fills the single-stack roll perfectly.

I plan to trick-out this gun a little. First will be a good set of night sights either tritium or fiber-optic. I'm leaning towards the Trijicon HD's, or the XS Big-Dot, but I'm open to suggestions. I also plan to have the slide Cerakoted a titanium color, and drop in a Zev 3.5 trigger package.

My Gen 2 Glock 19 is carried a lot in the cheapo holster you describe. It does a great job for 15 bucks.
 
Congrats on the G19. My one & only Glock is a Gen 4 G19. In spite of my long-time bias against Glocks, I've come to understand why the G19 is so popular. Good choice.
 
Congrats and welcome to the club of Gaston's Plastic Fantastic Pistol Admirers.

I love the 19, having owned all 9mm Glock models except the new 43, the 19 is tied with the 34 as my favorite and I have to say that I regret ever selling my 19gen3. Not that I mind my 17gen4 that I replaced it with but the 19 is a great shooter and all around gun.

Be careful Glocks have a tendency to start growing on, kinda like Black rifle disease, you get Gaston's Polymer Perfection-itis and not start acquiring more of them. Enjoy and Good purchase.

Also might I recommend the Wilson Combat Vickers Tactical Glock sights. I am a HUGE fan, and run them on all my Glocks, some with the Fiber optic and some with the tritium front, EXCELLENT sight arrangement.

Just FYI, that "butt" serves a specific purpose. In the event of a double feed, the magazine will be ejected to return the pistol to battery. The pressure in the chamber will prevent the mag from dropping freely as it's designed to, and so the hollow area behind the magazine is there to allow the user to firmly grasp the mag: index finger on the front, thumb in the back; strip it and go.

There are other ways to do this without using the butt; just realize it's more than an aesthetic oversight.

The G19 is a great firearm. Enjoy it.
 
Congrats on the G19.

I got one last year when I realized that my primary 9 (659) is heavier, empty, than the Gen4 G19 is, fully loaded.

IMO, the new grip is close to perfect. My G30s (Gen3 grip), bought at about the same time, needed some help, but I found that my G19 was G2G right out of the box.

In addition to that, it shoots like a dream. :)

just kidding-- my wifes choice for carry and mine for home defense--they go bang--PERIOD,,easy to clean and take care of. coatings are top quality and wear well--you have now crossed over to the Dark Side Luke...lol! Enjoy it

they go bang -- every time--period-- simplistic and perfect(almost anyway)-- great choice
 
Congrats! I find the big dot sights to be distractingly large; hard to slowfire target shoot well and hard to shoot well in defensive pistol competition against the clock, whereas for me HDs are ridiculously easy for the eye to acquire for all types of shooting.

It is also for drainage of debris and water in the event your gun encounters said debris and water. And not necessarily in that order. :cool:

Congrats on the G19 Gen 4. I've got one and oh mt lord, IT JUST. WON'T. STOP. For real, I feed it the cheapest 9mm I can possibly buy and it feeds EVERY SINGLE TIME. A fantastic gun, to say the least.

I like my Glock 19's for what they are, a good, low-end, reliable 9mm handgun, but they don't hold a candle to the Sig P226/P228's for quality, accuracy, ergonomics, and value.

If you have a good reliable handgun, isn't that by definition “value”?

I've had a P228 for a long time. Its a nice gun, but its not all that.

A Sig is a better value???? I'll need more explanation on that one. I think most would argue the opposite considering you get a reliable, dependable, handgun for 1/2 the price with Glock. Just because Glocks tend to be less expensive than a lot of other guns, in no way, shape, or form makes them "low end."

Secondly, Sigs are not inherently more accurate than Glocks. In fact, most modern production handguns are inherently more accurate than 99.9% of shooters.

Lastly, what may be ergonomically better for one person isn't necessarily better for another.

My Glocks are great, my other guns are every bit as good. In other words, variety in handguns is what it's all about!

That's great for a Sig P226/P228 guy. But we're seeing less and less of the type of shooters that prefer that type of pistol. We took a few shooters that had no bias between striker, SA, and DA/SA pistols (except for me, I hate DA/SA) and our shoot off had startling results. But if a Sig works best for a Sig guy, then that's perfectly good. Just seems like Sig, CZ75, and M9 shooters are an endangered species around here. At the end of the weekend, the midsized Glocks ruled the midsized CCW choice by a pretty good margin. Striker fired pistols are convenient for sure.

To call a Glock low end or less than a Sig is pretty off. Last I saw, Glocks spank Sigs at every IDPA, USPSA, and any Service Pistol class I've seen. The pistols results speak for it's self. None of us 1911 guys like the fact that we shoot the Glock better. The targets and stop watch don't lie though.

Quality and value is a bit subjective. Sigs quality is on par with Kimbers over here.:(

Accuracy? Glocks require sights and trigger work in all of our opinions, but once fixed, they were impressive. Not as impressive as a 1911, but the equal to a Sig easy.

Ergos? Lower height over bore than the Sig, so I'm not sure what you're alluding to. The grip shape is internet nonsense, and the blockiness, is preferred once we learned how to take advantage of it.
