Anyone own an RPC or ELC from Rangerproof? It's a small rifle manufacturer run by an SOF member, seems to be a very quality rifle that can be run hard... I might be getting into one, was looking for opinions before nearly 2K is spent on a rifle alone.
I know that PWS, Noveske, DD, BCM, and a multitude of others make rifles that are on that level, if not "better", but I like the idea that I'll have an AR that's not dime a dozen, but performs with the big boys..

I'm sorry, but an equivalent rifle can be put together for around $1100. There's literally no black magic to it, just buy quality parts and install them. For $2000 they could afford to install some better sights at least....

General example using quality parts:

Upper/lower of your choosing: $200
High end barrel: $300
BCG:$100
Trigger $150
FF Tube: $200
LPK/Stock/Gas block/etc: $150

Total: $1100

Could be had for less by shopping around.

Do you ever plan to sell it? Or can you at least imagine some day selling it? Do you care if you lose a lot on the sale?
If the answer is, 'yea, I might sell it but I don't care how much money I'll lose', then buy it.

I just can't get excited about another 416 stainless barrel. I see that this one is nitrocarborized too. I read at one time that this process does harden the surface to benefit wear resistance, but when applied to stainless is detrimental to corrosion resistance over normal stainless. Not a SME though.

Exactly what kind/type of enhanced performance are you expecting?

Thanks for the replies guys.. I do not want to build a rifle. I know it might / will cost more but I just want to buy once and be done. I will never sell it, this is going to be my first AR-15. I've shot an RRA elite operator II and I liked it a good bit. My dad has a bushmaster that's not very smooth to shoot. Bad trigger, runs fine but I've always made sure I keep it very clean.
I've seen a report on an RP ELC (1,500 dollar model) shooting 2k rounds in a day with no cleaning and being abused, thrown in a puddle of dirty water and such... I like that.
I used to be pretty active on this forum, mainly as a bolt action guy. I handload .223 and .308 for my R700's... So the AR-15 I may get won't be on a bench shooting paper. I want to take some high round count carbine classes and have a rifle that I can run hard and rely on if needed in a survival situation.
I'm not dead set on the brand but I do like what I have seen, and I like the fact that he will cerakote it if I order a custom one. (I think they're all custom)..

That being said, I'm open to all the higher end AR's. I like what I've heard about Noveske, and I know PWS is solid.. But the ELC seems pretty solid for what I want, accurate enough for me to send my handloads out to 400 or 500 confidently, but able to be run hard with cheap ammo in a class..

Does anyone own an RPC or ELC?

Anyone have a Noveske or PWS, with any comments on what you think of the rifle?

I've had a Noveske. Great rifle. Personally if I were wanting to spend 2 grand on a rifle id look no further than a KAC SR15. That rifle has legit enhancements over other ARs and is a known good buy.

Also if you are planning on taking a high round count class is be mindful about buying a stainless barrel. They are easier to damage with heat than a standard steel barrel.

That SR-15 does look really nice, I'm gonna have to add that to my list of possibilities, although it's on the expensive side.

What is the ideal barrel if not stainless?

There is nothing better than a chrome lined barrel on a hard-use rifle. They are more accurate than most of the ammo they shot and last a long time. Same could be said for melonite, but most good rifles still run a chrome lined barrel.

I agree with other people's sentiments, that is overpriced for what you get, but if you want (and never plan on selling it) then you'll probably be happy with it. The honest truth is though, everything that they are advertising about that barrel is already being done with sub-$200 barrels and their BCG is made of the same materials that a $90 Aim Surplus bcg is made of.

If that's the case, would a PWS Modern Musket, or an Entry level Noveske be a be the better choice for nearly the same money?
I'm not into the idea of going over 2000 on the rifle alone, so the SR-15 is probably out of my range.
I was aiming for something in the 1500-1750 range.. The SR-15 was 2100+ everywhere I looked online.

If your just looking for a rock solid rifle that will handle tough use, just get yourself a Colt 6920 and spend the rest on optics/ammo. It will do everything that your looking for and run just as well as the $2000 offerings.

An investment on optics will easily help you shoot better over any "enhancements" that those companies advertise. For a DI gun, you could shoot it to death and never notice the difference between quality, standard parts and "enhanced" parts, outside of a trigger.

That BCM looks right up my alley. As far as optics, I'm not planning on running anything magnified at the moment, that may change as I test out some gear but I want to be able to get on target fast.. If I did run any magnification I would entertain a 1-4, but I have my bolt guns for punching paper, the rifle I get is going to be used to torso sized targets out to 500 or so, but mainly >300yrd work.

I appreciate all the input guys. The 1500-1750 is rifle only, I am going to get a good optic a little later down the line..

Of course this all depends on whether I am able to sell my horse, which would buy me 2-3 rifles in this range if I get the price I want..
