Can anyone recommend a good 2-point sling for my Colt 6920/M4?

Also, I'm not really familiar with slings or installing them. There is a front sling swivel already installed, but where and how do I install one on the rear? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Never really messed with slings before but I've decided I need one

My primary concern is durability, then comfort. Price range is $20-$50

Original SOE, Magpul MS1/MS3, Vickers VTAC and BFG slings. There's also the old GI.

If you have an M4 stock, you will have a loop at the very bottom toe of the stock, as well as a slit just under the receiver extension. You can run the sling through either one. Do you have a pic of the rifle? Do you care if the sling mount rattles a bit? Do you plan on carrying slung across the chest or the back? Will you use it for support? All those things will help pick a sling.

Personally, I run either the Magpul MS1 and SOE slings exclusively (not consciously, but they're what I keep going back to). I also really prefer QD mounts if I can get them.

The problem with some of the "tactical" slings is that you end up with a big octopus hanging off your rifle. Many simply have far too many "features".

^That's why I like the MS1 and its derivatives, Very simple adjustment method with no tails hanging off, but it's easy to do whenever you need it.

I use the VTAC adjustable sling, and now have three of them. One for each of my own rifles, and a floater for any rifles the Army loans me.

Inebriated, I will post a pic of the rifle shortly.

It will be carried across my back or over my shoulder. I won't use it for support really. It will be useful for carrying the rifle when I'm walking around our property and need a free hand or don't feel like carrying it in my hands constantly.

Thanks for the recommendations so far guys. So I just buy a sling swivel/mount and just put it through one of those holes in the stock? I have the magpul stock furniture. Will post a pic in a few mins

Oh, so you have the Magpul.

Your cheapest option would be running one end of the sling through the slot at the rear of the stock, and the other end through the loop at the front.

EDIT - like so. The stock is actually a fixed MOE Carbine stock, so I would just use the QD mount there in the corner, but for your stock, the slot would work just fine.

Anyone with info on how to mount a rear sling swivel?

You could mount a qd cup in the little nook on the top back web of the stock, or run the sling through the slots as noted above (probably easier.)

The sling cup in Inebriated's photo is available for sale separately from Magpul.

Awesome, I think that's what I'll do. Thanks guys. Wish Magpul would have just put a sling swivel on this stock to begin with, but I'll manage

Do you want a shoulder carry sling, or a tactical sling for hanging the rifle across your chest? For shoulder carry, the leather 1907 is my favorite, with the nylon GI web sling as a cheaper alternative. If you want one of those, just attach it the way Inebriated shows. You won't be able to use the metal rear clip on a GI web sling attached this way though. The push-button QD swivel would be preferable.

If you want a tactical sling for front-side carry (which I greatly prefer for just about all purposes), the padded VCAS sling is the best of breed. If you want to use this type of sling properly, you will need some sort of side attachment for the front of the sling. I greatly prefer options that attach to the handguard, rather to the barrel or FSB. The Blue Force Gear universal cable attachment is the easiest option for a factory handguard.

Same for me. VTAC only for everything. They are, at first, a bit 'busy' but they work, they're dependable and flexible and feel like they'll last longer than the shooter.

I have a magpul MS2, which I think they have phased out for the MS3.

I added both a Magpul RSA and an ASP plate so that I could attach the sling the way that I wanted. The RSA lets me attach the forward part of the sling to the rail and the ASP plate lets me attach the rear of the sling at the rear of the receiver. For me this keeps the rifle more moveable while slung rather than having the sling at the FSB and at the rear of the stock.

I can see the merits of a padded sling because when I have my suppressor attached my rifle does get a bit on the heavy side. Still comfortable enough but I notice it if I have the rifle slung for more than an hour or two.

The older type of over the shoulder/under the gun slings aren't as useful in my opinion because they are only designed as carrying straps and the rifle isn't in a usable position when slung. I do favor the new types that sling from the side of the rifle and keep it at a low ready position.

Oh, so you have the Magpul.

This is EXACTLY the setup I run.

I thought you somehow had gotten pics of my carbine! same color, same stock same front sling mount. Everything

I've become partial to the Magpul MS3. Although it has hooks rather than traditional "loop through" attachment, it can be used as both a shooting sling and carry strap. I have both the ASP attachment and buttstock attachment on a traditional M4 stock. Best of both worlds, in my opinion. Shooting sling, carry strap and single point, whichever i need at the moment, all usable just by moving the hooks to the appropriate attachment point. Takes two seconds.

All good suggestions so far. The bfg and vtac 2 point slings are prob the standard now. I thought I'd post to mention the Armageddon gear sling. I've been using it for the past year. It's worth a look
