Uber Bans Firearms - Petition Started

I applied for Uber and after looking into it, never followed through. First of all, the insurance issue is iffy at best, you could find yourself being sued with no one to cover you, "insurance company's are attaching riders to their policy's, explaining that if you are using your car to transport passengers for money, you will not be covered", this also goes for hospital costs. They recommend you try to use your own health insurance first, then if declined, they may help you or may not.
Same goes for accidents. Even if you have no passengers in your car, if you have the App open you are working.
Now they also are requesting in many states that you have commercial insurance and a commercial license. "Kind of took the air out of it".
And the last straw was that they are telling me that I cannot carry my own gun, in my own car. Which is complete bull crap, since they are encouraging you to work the prime hours from 9pm to 3 AM. The perfect time for some idiot to rob you.
I could even understand it if it was their car. But it's not their car, or their life. And if you turn away "even a bunch of drunks" , like a cab would do. you are looking at a suspension or being fired. I have already sent a half dozen emails to them explaining the stupidity of what happens in Gun Free Zones, and that I won't comply with this, and have not received an answer other than they are looking into it.

This driver was fired after his gun discharged during an assault by a passenger: http://www.kvue.com/story/news/loca...s-he-was-fired-after-being-attacked/30856365/

Not a surprising outcome. UBER is protecting their profits from lawsuits; plain and simple. It is easy to sit on the UBER throne and say "guns are not permitted per policy" and then distance themselves from any and all incidents that happen in cars contracted by UBER. In their view, no one who is being paid by UBER pulled the trigger. If they were being PAID by UBER, they did it against UBERS's policy. Breaking their contact (as they claim that drivers are not employees) is swift, immediate and final. Even if the driver saved a car load of nuns and orphans from Bigfoot by shooting it, it was against policy.

What is needed is a concealed carry permit holder who “always carries”, but due to UBER’s policy, is disarmed. I don’t wish anything bad to happen, but their family needs to sue should a tragic incident occur. If they sue, they’ll be up against the best legal team that a multi-million dollar company can muster.

Same goes for any and all companies that bar employees and/or contractors from protecting themselves.

One of the biggest proponents for Uber establishing business in Birmingham is the Alabama Libertarian party. Could be an activism approach if the big name in Uber's corner were to stop fighting for Uber in a large market.

I applied to be a driver and have just been approved. Good news; they've now spent money on my background checks. Now I'll be telling them why I won't be driving.

Folks, this is Activism, not comments and complaints. We work plans of action here, not kibitz about "ignore them".

If everyone that considered working through Uber would send them the message herrwalther did it would be an action taken to change their policy.

If everyone with an account would send them a similar "you're fired as long as this unworkable Anti policy is in place" it would be an action taken to change their policy.

If the rest of us would send them emails saying "I was going to sign up, but not as long as this unworkable Anti policy is in place in the VAST majority of states where it is legal for me to carry" it would be an action taken to change their policy.

Saying "ignore them" accomplishes nothing to change their policy.

Along with the petition, here's Uber's quickest way to get a response - [email protected] Time to flood those inboxes!

Here's the email that I sent (free of rants or profanity) - "Uber's decision that they no longer want to follow local law and serve carry permit holders who are the lowest crime rate group in the U.S. moves me to decide that I will no longer do business with Uber as long as this policy to ignore local laws and impose a political agenda upon users is in place."
I went one step further and sent Uber the following message: "Uber's decision that they no longer want to follow local law and serve carry permit holders who are the lowest crime rate group in the U.S. moves me to decide that I will no longer do business with Uber as long as this policy to ignore local laws and impose a political agenda upon users is in place. Furthermore, if I learn of anyone being robbed or injured as a result of Uber’s policy, I will urge them to sue Uber for preventing them from protecting themselves."

They lost money on me as well. My background check and insurance checks were complete. I was ready to go in their driver pool for when they setup shop. Even had their "super secret" driver app installed on my phone and working.
