Now, do I have your attention?

Is anyone here tracking the inner sanctums of anti-gunners to learn if and what they are doing to revive AWB? Anybody tracking the solons who could slip in an extension of - or make permanent - the AWB? In ANY bill? Anyone slipping in behind those folks to see if they are planning a last minute coup de grâce???

Have we decided complacency is our tactic?

IF we're so hot about the AWB dying a natural death, how about at the least, we stand by the bed and guard the patient from the trauma experts who'd force-feed the body?

What do you think about an AWB non-survival committee of those THR-ers who know the ropes of intel getting together in PM world, splitting up the sources of "what are THEY doing", and meteing out the work to be done. And if there's warning necessary, provide our response effort?? Let's not get caught with our proverbial pants down and no paper??

Organize, then tell me where I can serve. September is but a school vacation away.

Now this guy has an Idea! ;)

Not bad man, YOU DO HAVE A POINT. So which sites to watch?

I send out letters twice a month to my congressmen. I'm signed up for the e-mail alerts from NRA, GOA, and CCRKBA. And I search around on the net at least weekly.

I like the analogy. Protecting a dying patient to honor the DNR order.

I do not hang with anti's nor do I know where they hang. I can't speak their language so i would be no good at intel. :(

It is, however, a great idea. The THR division spins off an intel battalion :D

Psyops, we need Psyops.

Dustind...

Nicki Fellenzer really lit into Warner... great letter.

For everyone:

Well, as usual - it didn't play very well.

Anyway, I took a quick tool around THOMAS today and didn't see anything new called, in direct language, "Assault Weapon Ban". However, with my insidious mind I can conceive of the ban effort wrapped up in some innocuous bill somewhere, incubating... waiting for an auspicious moment in time to push it through when we're not watching.

The problem, friends, is that I am not - repeat NOT adept at chasing scads of bills that might contain ban language. And - on the other side - there just maybe isn't any bill hiding ban language.

Maybe this this is just an exercise in BTT, huh?

Later.

Seems to me that, if they really want to be sneaky, they just have to put into some unrelated bill, "USC Section XXX.YY, clause ZZZ, is amended to delete, 'shall sunset after ten years.'" It's gonna be really hard to find something like that.

HBK... we'll see how much attention this try gets. And thanks.

M1911Owner... You're right. And since most of those bills run to hundreds (or more) pages, many of the "voters" don't get to read the "bowels of the bill". Personally, I believe much of the detail is fleshed out later and if this is true, who knows how many time bombs are lurking in those texts just waiting for the right administration to use.

a worthy summer covert op would be to insure the MMM summer publicity tour with "the big pink rig"
is counter leafleted at every stop. They are attempting to sow misinformation across the land.
We need to be ready to hose down the area with RKBA roundup.

GOA and NRA keep a tight watch on congressional bill riders for us.

Yup....what Harry said.

And keep writing to your Congressmen. Multiple times....send email, snailmail, faxes, and make phonecalls.

We don't need a great big bus driving around pushing our agenda. We don't HAVE and agenda, just a desire to protect what's ours.

And talk to your friends about the AWB; it's amazing how many people know nothing of it's true nature - they're fooled into thinking it's "a good thing" because of the title we LET them label it "ASSAULT WEAPONS ban"....of course that's enough to push the sheep into voting for it....it sounds so dire and scary....:fire:

And that is really the heart of the issue... most gun control passes because voters are ignorant or don't care about the issue. We need to explain what these laws REALLY do and to challenge some of the beliefs.

One point I like to make to the liberals I know who favor gun control is that if Bush is even a fraction as evil as you paint him, why on Earth would you want only his employees to be armed? That can be effective in jump starting a long unused brain on the subject...

There are probabaly infestations at VPC, Handgun Control Inc, The Brady Bunch. Try a google search under "gun control" or "gun violence" or somesuch.

I send letters to the RNC every month; its hopeless with my MD Senators who are both gun grabbers (different when I get to AL; 100% polar opposites!)

I DO think it will sunset, but I also think if Kerry gets in he will push hard for an expanded bill!:cuss: If the House stays solidly (R), especially in the anger at being "kicked out of the WH during wartime" backlash, Mr. "I don't fall" might have a tough time at it.

However, I just heard about Bush maybe trading the AWB for the Patriot Act if re-elected. Dang.

I still think AWB renewal is more likely under Kerry than Bush, though I am less sure than before!

It is not really Bush who will decide whether the ban dies in September. It's Tom DeLay. If he let it come up, the House might pass it. The Senate would pass it, and Bush would sign it.

DeLay probably won't let it come up, but he's a deal maker. If the Dems really want it, and they offer him something he can't refuse, he will let it come up.

Let's not do either of two things - 1) as suggested, sit back and hope the the AWB will sunset and 2) JUST AS IMPORTANTLY jump up and cheer at prospect that it may happen.

There are sure to be various legislatures which will try to enact (count PA as one) their own AWB!

We need to be pushing not only for a sunsetting of the current ban but Federal pre-emption of state bans.

However, I just heard about Bush maybe trading the AWB for the Patriot Act if re-elected. Dang.

I'd be extremely skeptical of this. What do the Dems gain by trading PA2 for a new AWB? In reality, the Dems would only want to make that trade if the number of voters who would be pleased by a new AWB is greater than the number of voters who will be upset by PA2.

Look at the current Democratic party and tell me if you think that is the case.

I've got an email from Mr. Delay from over a year ago that states that it will not pass.

I've heard that from him as well. I just don't fully believe it. I do believe that an unlikely set of events would have to occur. A couple of back-to-back Columbine type incidents occur, then the Dems suddenly decide to offer up something DeLay really wants in exchange for bringing up the renewal....

I just wouldn't bet that he would not fold. Like I said, a deal maker.

BTW, the situation has improved markedly from a few years ago, when I would have very quickly bet anyone twenty bucks that the ban would be renewed. No one was interested back then, but I bet some folks here would take the bet today. It's off the table. :D

Tom Delay and GWB both need to feel pressure from gun owners.

Since you're writing anyway, include a photocopy of a check for a campaign contribution - whatever you can afford - dated September 14th. State that if the AWB sunsets you'll mail the check, and if it doesn't then you'll be staying home on election day. Be prepared to follow through either way.

Also, send copies to the RNC. If gun owners stay home on election day that will threaten Republicans in every race from local school board up to the Presidential election.

My proRKBA congressperson sent me a mealy mouthed letter saying that he would examine the complex issue when the time comes. That means when he gets his marching orders.

My Bush loving Senator didn't even answer.

From what I read, it all depends on what Bush or his stooges think will aid his election. Then pressure (subtley and under the table) will be put on house members to pass a renewal or defeat it.

If Team Bush thinks that some soccer mom votes will be gotten, then they will tell enough house members that we need to keep Kerry out and the ban will be renewed. Or if he needs to get bailed out over the Iraq fiasco with some bill and the trade is for the AWB to get renewed, pressure will make it happen.

Remember that the Senate will renew it and Bush is on record as saying he will sign it - that's two strikes - and he has no balls on this issue. Ha!
