Short answer: no I wouldn't carry one as I have much more proven and reliable guns to use rather than something that looks like a scaled down flare pistol. I would greatly prefer the 5 rounds in my S&W J frame snubbie or the 6 rounds I'm my Kahr CM9.

Isn't the point behind a derringer compact size? Why have a big ass derringer?

Well, I say this every time someone asks if a gun interests me, just so we're clear on my perspective.

There isn't a gun on the planet that I wouldn't buy if given the chance. There is not a gun that has been made, is being made, or will ever be made that I would absolutely never purchase. After that it's just a matter of priorities. This is probably not going to be high on that list.

I guess it would be a lot more attractive to me if they made the jump all the way to .357 mag in the available chamberings and could be purchased for under $300. I do kinda like the speedloader in the grip, so it's basically 8 rounds being carried instead of 5 in a J-frame.

I guess I'm going to be the first one to say I COULD see myself carrying it, but only as a BUG to one of my .357 mag revolvers, like my GP-100. And I don't always carry a BUG.

The November 2014 mentions a release date of March 2015.

It is hard to get a good impression of the size of the gun, but it looks bulkier than a Ruger LCP or KelTec 380. The firing mechanism, which is illustrated in the 2014 video, looks a lot like that of the Victorian-era Lancaster pistol, but with more of an eye toward safety.

If the measurements on the website are accurate, it's a little taller and thicker than an LCP, but still fairly small.

Or, if you like, it's almost exactly the same size and weight as a Kahr PM9 or CM9 that has a capacity of 6+1 or 7+1 rounds. Except with a shorter barrel and worse trigger.

The impression I get is that this pistol is intended as an easy to use subcompact for Mom and Grandma. Unless a subcompact size is absolutely necessary, I wonder if a J-frame would be more suitable.

At least it should be affordable. The website claims an MSRP of $449.

It certainly looks different.

But like the rest, it only fires one at a time.

If your looking for.............different, this could be the one.

Aside from being thick, bulky, limited to four shots, slow to reload and undoubtedly inaccurate, what other virtues does it have?

LOL, a better trigger than the original COP. Of course, that isn't saying much. My hiking boot has a better trigger that a COP. I think the only worse trigger I have ever felt was on a gun with the safety still engaged.

I have talked to these people and handled the pistol. The market is for people that are not gun people but want a house gun. Simple to use and multiple shot, in a controllable effective caliber. It fulfils a true need in the market. Just because we like firearms and most of us can handle the manual of arms doesn't mean we should sneer at a solution for a problem we do not have. I would buy one of these for my mother. It is simple and it works.

That "true need" in the market is already filled quite nicely. As for being a home defense gun, reliant is billing it as a concealed carry gun.

If it fires all rounds at once I'd buy it if it were cheap enough.

It's bulky for its round count. Hideous. And my XDs and SP101 serve me well.

If someone remade the old COP derringers with a trigger that wasn't garbage and a price point under $600, I might bite. Not for this hunchback looking thing.

My normal ankle BUG is a PPK, sometimes a P238. Recently upgraded to a SW99 compact, 4-1/8 inches height, and it holds 9 rounds of .40S&W, 9 rounds of .40 cal should stop a deadly threat... vs 4 rounds of 38 spl...

My COP trigger is one of the reasons I never favored it. I suspect it's all of the stuff the trigger has to do with regards to shooting the separate barrels. On he plus side, after you've fired all four rounds it would make a nice hung of steal to whack someone with. But the same applies to the aforementioned AMT Backup.

Truthfully, I like oddities. And, if I didn't already own the COP I probably would buy one. Hey, firearms aren't just for serious stuff. They are for fun and oddities make life more interesting.

Nope. No interest at all. A solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Much better options out there.

I can only image such a very very limited market for that I cant possibly see it succeeding.

No more than $225 considering you can get 2 shot derringers for $150.


People comparing it to a $550+ S&W Airweight and saying the S&W is better is kind of silly though.

I would like to shoot it once, just for giggles.

It would look good in the movies and TV. I recall seeing COP pistols on Battlestar Galactica as a concealed handgun. So it might work in space?

I might purchase a used one if the price was right, but it would only be a range toy just of the hell of it. For carry though, I would just pick up a five shot smith and be done with it. Those have been working for decades and muti barreled pistols have been tried before and very worked that well.

House gun???! If simple & multiple shots are a requirement why not a 4" wheel gun in 38 Spl - that's 6 shots . . . I really hope you wouldn't buy one for your mother.
