gca journal
About two months ago i joined the garand collector's association because joining it satisfies one of several criteria that you must meet in order to be able to order milsurp rifles from the CMP (civilian marksmanship program) at really good prices.
It is $25 for 1 year.....they...
I have that EXACT handguard on my DPMS and it is an extremely tight fit. It's so tight you will likely need a second person to install it unless you have the handguard removal tool. Slipping in that second half is a real pain if you are doing it manually.
Highly recommend the product in terms...
CMP Garand
For those of you looking for a garand just get one from the CMP. You can't beat their deals on surplus military rifles: http://www.thecmp.org/
You can get a field grade rifle for $495.00 or a service grade rifle for $595.00. See their site for descriptions on the amount of wear...
Bushmaster, DPMS, Rock River Arms etc. all offer some very high quality rifles for ~$400.00+ cheaper than Colt.
I can't imagine being buying an AR and being "unsatisfied" with any of the cheaper manufacturers. Much of the higher price of the Colt is simply because of the name.
I'd go with...
dpms ultimate repair kit
I recently picked up a "DPMS ultimate repair kit" to keep with my ar-15. It is $60.00 and contains around 30 miscellaneous parts. Firing pin, gas rings, tons of little springs, small "delicate" components, etc.
Most places are out of stock but I was able to get one...
weapon for survival
If a survival situation were to present itself, whether you find yourself in an urban or rural area, the bottom line is simply this: any weapon is better than no weapon. That's all there is to it.
Any of the weapons you listed would be great for either situation, urban...
Special Grade's w/WWII Serial #'s & Any pics of them?
Anyone know if they have any of the new "Special" Grade M1 Garands available with World War II serial #'s?
Also............anyone have any links of what the Special Grade M1's look like? I am having a hard time finding pics of the...
Wow fast replies!
Thanks for the input so far. I have not completely eliminated the idea of physically going to the south store FlyinBryan. I mean I could rent a car for a weekend I guess lol. I drive alot due to my work/school locations from where I live. I bought my car new in 2005 and I...
I've been looking into purchasing an M1 Garand from the CMP recently and I have a few questions that some of you out there might be able to help with. I actually registered with the official forum on the CMP website a few days ago to ask my questions to the people over there but I have yet to...
Gonna make my final decision at the end of this month......gonna check out one more show to see if there happens to be any deals.
CMP looked like a hassle at first but the paperwork is actually not a big deal as far as their "membership" req's etc. $25 for garand collector society.
When...
So, in order to purchase from them I would have to enroll in an 'official' course of some sort and also join a membership club that I will not actually participate in? I have no reason to pay for either of these services other than to be "eligible" to buy from CMP. Lame.
Overall, seems like...
So, a few weeks ago I made a post asking opinions of the M1A vs the M1 Garand:
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=5260455#post5260455
I checked out the local monthly gunshow here in San Antonio, TX and it seems like M1A prices are through the roof right now so I am deffinately...
What is the proper way to attach a basic, run of the mill, AR-15 nylon string w/two plastic adjustment buckles.
I've had my AR for a little over a year now and have never had a use for the sling that came with it as I have only used it for target shooting, not hunting or anything where I...
other options
im totally open to other options....i had heard some good things about eotech being one of the better 'tactical' red dot sights so that's mainly why i was looking into it
budget is around $500 - cant justify spending $1k on an ACOG or something like that...that's the cost of...
Looking into getting an optic for my DPMS AR-15.
The factory carry handle iron sights work great but I'm ready for an upgrade. I'm leaning towards the popular EOTECH sight but wanted to get some feedback on the different models available.
511, 552, 553, 556......there seems to be quite a...
CMP M1's
I checked out the CMP site. They seem to have some great prices. Their "special" and "correct grade" models are $995. Their field & service grade models with more wear are $500-$600. I wish they posted photos of each.
I'm leaning toward the Garand at the moment because of price...
