frankenstein- you dont need a 50 to shoot 400yds! We commonly shoot coyotes at that distance with a .223, It does a good job. I would not suggest that it is a good choice for 400yd shots on deer however I have seen it work on deer out to 488yds.
To answer the OP question: No, I do not view...
magsie, while not a 260, I have a similar set up in 6.5/284 and also shoot the 142 SMKs. I have found good results from a compressed load of H4831SC. Also try RL22 and if you are running a long barrel try RL25. H1000 is also another that works well with the 6.5mm bullets.
Good luck!

I have both chest and upright. I picked up a 25 cuft chest freezer second hand that I use to 'store' sausage and meat to be made into sausage. The upright freezer gets the birds and fish mainly. I also transfer meet from the chest freezer to the upright for convenience of use but if I had to...
I was thinking about your project and potentially rehabbing my gunroom. Wife gave a thumbs down on the idea of knocking out a wall to colonize the guest bedroom. It went something like this...
her: "What are you doing in the guest room?"
me: "I'm thinking about knocking out this wall"...
To each their own. I shoot between x00-x,000 rounds a year through my 'hunting rifles' as all of my guns get the opportunity to go hunting.
I'm a tinker-er like jimmyray and swap components around and agree that once set, a well put together rig will usually stay set if it is not mishandled...
FL, I'd love to watch and learn...from a safe distance!
But seriously, I have done the boiling water and scraping the hair off method and used a pressure washer to blast the hair off too but found it more trouble than I felt it was worth. We just skin them these days. Does your scorching...
One commonality of my ‘ritual’ is at the beginning of the hunt when I say a small prayer to keep us all safe during the hunt and to guide our shots straight and true should we get the opportunity.
After that I guess for me it depends on the critter, as countertop said. Small 'eatin’...
edson,
First off, welcome to THR.
I'm not sure what exbiologist spent on this outting but last year doe tags were $34 each. Wyoming is a wonderful place to hunt!
exbiologist, thanks for sharing the pictures. I wish I had the chance to make it up there again this year but a new baby...
Gotta dissagree here, corn is of low nutritional value, it is the icecream of deer food.
I see no problem with any style of hunting but anticipate the debate and infighting will continue...
Nice deer.

Looking good so far. Beware, Maj Dad's warning is true! I believe I could have a 5,000sqft reloading room and still not have enough room. Sure, it would be ample and possibly tidy for the first year or so but once strange and exciting new gear starts to colonize it... entropy strikes again

Put these two together and you have most of your answer. If you are looking to shoot longer distances you will likely want to determine the velocity at those ranges. Basically, you will want to be supersonic for targets and/or at some impact velocity necessary to dispatch...
