    Best 308 for $600'ish?

I have a Savage Hog Hunter in .308 and it is a very accurate rifle. I handload and if I do my part it shoots sub-moa at 100yds, and I'm 67 yrs. old so that's saying something about the gun.

    Supposed Deer/Hog 308 Bolt Gun

I have a Savage Hog Hunter in 308. I live in NY so I don't know anything about putting a suppressor on it. I bought it because it has open sights so if I'm at my camp two and a half hours from home and something happens to the scope I can pop it off and still hunt. It's very accurate and overall...

20 ga. 870 barrel, will it fit?

Looking at a 20 ga. 870 barrel for my sons gun. It's a 20 ga. Wingmaster 2 3/4" chamber but the barrel I'm looking at is a 2 3/4" or 3" barrel. Looks like a 870 Express barrel, it's the dark Matte finish. Would there be a problem using it on a 2 3/4 inch receiver?

Does brass fired in my chamber make more accurate reloads?

I'm no expert on anything,(just ask my wife), but YouTube is your friend in this case. There are plenty of F Class shooters, Eric Cortina comes to mind, with videos that will help.

What do you dislike about reloading?

Trimming brass. Other than that I find reloading very therapeutic.

    Decent cup and core??

I got to thinking about it and I've never killed a deer with anything other than a Remington Cor-Lokt bullet in my 30-06. I killed my first deer with my own reloads seven years ago and use 165 gr. Core-Lokts over 54 gr. of Win. 760 and it kills real dead real quick.

So what happened to the pump rifle?

Sage is right about the recoil in the Rem. 760. Mine kicks like a country mule. It has a narrow stock and a hard plastic butt plate. When I take it to the range I have a slip on recoil pad I use. I've never had any issues with extractions and I've run a lot of different handloads thru it. I...

    Remington 742 30-06 FPS ?

A Garand load at 46 grs.of IMR 4895 is for a 150 gr. FMJ bullet. The lowest starting load I could find for IMR 4895 with a 165 gr. jacketed bullet was 48 grs. with just a little over 2700 ft. so 2400 ft. with 46 grs. with a 165 gr. bullet may be about right.

So what happened to the pump rifle?

Most of my deer have been taken with a Remington 760 30-06 or my Remington 870 12 ga. Both pumps. 54 grains of Winchester 760 and a Remington 165 gr. Cor-Lokt shoots 1" groups at a hundred yards, if I do my part, which I do most of the time.

Is washing dirty range brass sufficient?

I don't own a tumbler and don't plan on getting one. Just another piece of equipment I don't have room for. I wash my brass using something very similar to the NRA formula and then dry in the oven. Is it shining like being tumbled? No. Do I care? No. Shiney brass doesn't help that bullet go down...

You're not supposed to sell a gun. Once you own it you own it forever!!

    universal depriming die

The first thing I do is deprime with my Lee depriming die. Using the resizing die to deprime means a dirty primer pocket. I don't own a tumbler and I wash all my brass after depriming. May seem like an extra step but it goes very quickly. I find brass prep to be therapeutic, except for trimming...

Powders for .308 130/150 grain loads

I have a Savage Hog Hunter That likes 45 grs. of IMR 4895 or 44.5 grs. of Varget with 150 grs. Hornady Interlocks and 150 gr. Federal Power-Shoks. Can't help with 130 gr. bullets. These are the bullets I have a lot of so I plink with them and these loads shot very tight groups for me.

My Remington 760 likes 54 grs. of Winchester 760 and a 165 gr. Core-Lokt and my Savage Hog Hunter likes 45 grs. of IMR 4895 and 150 gr. Hornady Interlocks.

    .308 favorite load?

My Savage Hog Hunter likes 45 gr. of IMR 4895 and 150 gr. Hornady Interlocks. Very accurate and a fairly cheap load to produce.

It's a good thing but I still hate it.

Hate buying ammo. Love making my own, except trimming brass. Don't like trimming brass.
