"Certificates of Uselessness" sound horrifying.
And indeed, it's important to keep in mind that you can't effectively shortcut the social, economic, political, etc factors that lead to violence by "nerfing" the ability to act out in an antisocial way.
I'll miss PTR and everything they've done in support of the local shooting community and matches, particularly the last two Coast Guard 3-Gun matches. Our state's loss is someone else's gain.
Apologies for the bad link, iPad didn't warn me!
I suppose This incident makes me think that the idea of getting a pretty big magazine and not really worrying so much about practice or training is probably not only alive and well, but as prevalent now as it has ever been.
(bad link snipped)
The money quote is:
"So I pulled out my 9mm Taurus with the 17-bullet magazine and started firing until it jammed. And they ran out like cockroaches."
The bad news, I guess, is that "until it jammed" was apparently like 7 rounds (unconfirmed). On the other hand, a budget...
I pretty much converted to the Speer 135 grain 38 +P GDHP as a carry round, and am officially done with the .357 J frame, BUT a PC gun for $600? That's a yes. Various .38 J frames with less to recommend them go for more at auction. Could you get a 442 pro series for that right now?
I saw it in the original theatrical release when I lived in DC, and I laughed a lot during the "Africanized killer bees" montage, which I thought was so much on point about how our current media culture alienates us from our neighbors and at the same time is so madly trying to fearmonger about...
High polish stainless is a custom shop option you can have done at colt right now. I've only sent one (Stainless Delta) back for it but I was really pleased and absolutely recommend it.
The ultimate stainless finish on pythons was limited to a definite period in the production history though...
I would hate to miss the chance to say how much Dave's advice and expertise meant to me and the time and trouble that I otherwise would have devoted to foolish things. I try to tell my kids that the gift of reading is that you can learn from every mistake ever recorded instead of painfully...
One time I was at the range trying to fire fast pairs and not doing so well. Someone a few lanes down somehow shot the rope off their target carrier and there was a cease fire while it was restrung. I had Brian Enos's book in my range bag, and so I read while I waited. Where I picked up, he was...
I feel like a lot of people are blowing by the OP's point. There is undeniably a consumer culture narrative out there that you should start out with an "entry level" $400-$500 AR, then as your interests change and grow, you should add or trade in for a $600 AR, an $800 AR, then a $1200 AR, and...
Wandering through one of my locals, looking for a new (to me) deer rifle, two model 70's jumped out at me. Rifle one, $799, is a pre 64 M70 in .270 in good shape with a nasty Banner brand optic, nice wood, ancient crusty rubber recoil pad, slind swivels/carrying strap. Rifle 2 is a post '64 M70...
You can always send the 5906 in for the performance center 3rd gen action tune, which I believe includes spring replacement. Then your $299 gun is new again for $150. I've done this with my 5906 (from CDNN) and 910, and if I tried to tell you how pleased I Am with the results you'd probably...
My first gun was a Winchester 1890 in .22 short, and you would not believe how much duct tape it took to hold the Starlight scope on in a way that maintained zero.
Gecko45 was a special kind of Troll.
It's a rifle that people like to tote around and drop out of tree stands, etc, so check that the crown isn't dinged. The bore is probably #2, and after that your next most likely issue is messed up sights/poorly mounted or adjusted scopes. Kind of super low odds of a "lemon."
I question the point at which hardware starts to matter vs software, but by all means, buy a dedicated 3 gun AR if 3 gun is what you want to do- no need to buy it twice. it'd be nice to have a .22 trainer set up the same way, and a budget to run some bricks. I'm not telling any family secrets...
