Get a Marlin 336. Like someone else said, buy one made before 2009. That is when Remington came and messed up a good thing. Also, try to find one without the crossbolt safety.
Hey Dakota. Marlin didn't start D&T until the early sixties I believe. If you know the first two digits of the serial, we can determine the year of manufacture. If it has a letter to start out the serial, then it is an older 50s or 60s.

Here is something. A Glenfield (Marlin) 30-30 at a great price. Someone put in an offer already, but you can pay the asking price I believe. Spend the extra $50 on a scope like the lower model Bushnells, or Simmons. You might have to spend a little more for rings and bases, but not much more...
