...those lee progressives. Im not a lee user, so i dont know if its the same press. But i do know it was pretty in depth and full of seemingly useful information.
Which leads me to my next thought, why was i looking at that Lee thread since i don't own one. *shrugs* That i will never...
I need a hand in the reloading area for this gun.
Ive just picked one up a couple of days ago.(happens to be the same one i shot and fell in love with about 6 years ago)
The little research i have been able to do so far gives me conflicting data.
Some say it is a polygonal rifling...
Generally what i will do in this batch charge stage:
1. Dump powder into the funnel
2. Tap a few times, inspect for no bridging
3. Immediately move the funnel to the next case
4. Begin measuring next charge
repeat 1-4
If i have to get distracted, i make sure to finish that case, and ill...
It takes alot of time to get a load dialed in. From press and die setup to load testing, etc.
For some, the time wasted re-dialing in for a different caliber is not worth it.
For those with the disposable income, it's probably a good fit for the lifestyle.
If i could afford it, id buy...
I couldnt agree more.
I would also agree with hunter that you should probably get a few "By the book" loads done first before attempting something like this.
There are plenty of minor gotcha's that creep up. Add those on top of inexperience and it could be bad.
Hell i've been doing this for...
Like others have said, welcome to the hobby.
I would think that as long as you did a 1 to 1 conversion from steel case to brass case reusing each component but the case, and double checking COAL and individual case length, you would be ok. I would not however, batch pull the wolf ammo, and...
So, ive been trying to work up a load in my AR with these bullets and only frustrating myself to death with them.
I cant seem to get decent groups. 3" groups at 100 yards at best, and 10" groups on the last set i made.
I've run through and checked everything i can think to check...
While its not the greatest pic in the world (snapped it just now without editing)
This is what i do for my dummy rounds.
My wife bought some baseball card holders for her coupons, and i absconded with a few of them.
Im sure others have betters ideas for organizing them.
FWIW
art,
I am. But the only pistol powder i have used to date is flake. I haven't tried a ball powder with it yet.
I just bought some ball due to lack of availability of BE.
You have me curious about that now. So i will try some tonight when i get home.
It may aslo be of note that...
I was referring to the time saved VS hand measuring each charge.
The chargemaster, as much as i like it, cannot compete with a throw when it comes to speed. But i believe its a good compromise between the two (speed and accuracy).
On a typical handgun load, 9mm, 45 etc. It throws a charge...
I have to say, ive done the beam scale, ive done the cheapo electronic scale, ive done the dippers, etc.
about a year or two ago, I broke down and bought the RCBS chargemaster combo. While it did sting my wallet alot at the time, after the first 10 rounds, i was convinced i made the right...
So i was thinking tonight that it would be nice to add a unique gun to my collection.
Im looking for a round that is not overly common, but fun to reload.
I was thinking WSSM, 6.5 Grendel, or possibly 6.5 creedmore.
For me the more oddly shaped the cartridge, the better.
What say you?
My vote is the wrong case activation tube in the powder measure, or the powder drops height is too low. I did this to 38 spl cases when i forgot to change out for the correct size.
So on the advice of carbine85 from a different thread i worked up a load with IMR 4895.
Much better. Each set in the ladder cycled perfectly.
So for my gun somewhere between 24 and 24.5 is the sweet spot.
Now i just need to work up another ladder in that range.
Ill admit this threw me...
I think ill stick with your max of 21.5.
You explanation on burn rate has me pondering if i should switch to I4895(only other powder i have in stock atm) or varget(i dont have).
On the burn rate chart listed on IMR's site
IMR 4198 is #71
IMR 4895 is #89
Varget is #99
Thats kind of a bummer...
