Ummm...Massachusetts (as people mention here). 940 CMR 16.00 which make it a "deceptive practice" if certain features aren't included:
"...such mechanisms shall include, but are not limited to: raising trigger resistance to at least a ten pound pull, altering the firing mechanism so that an...
One thing to consider is belt width...I took a course using a 1.5" belt (Wilderness style) so had a fair amount of weight on my hips, and ended up pretty sore with all the pressure it caused. I had thrown a small shop 1-3/4" belt (also a wilderness style) in my case at the last minute since it...
You realize this is somewhat akin to going to an AA meeting and asking why you want a drink. Except I doubt anyone here will try to discourage you from getting another gun.
Funny, I just complete a half-day course with a local instructor, mostly because all of the other courses were multi-day, and I just can't get away for consecutive days. One of my suggestions was exactly what you are indicating: have an advanced course, maybe once a month, with practice...
I always see people recommending other loaders in this type of thread...usually for a specific pistol, often citing that it's much cheaper than an UPLULA. That's great if you have one, but I like something that can load my 9mm M&Ps, Springfield .45, .45 M&P, etc., etc., without worrying that I...
I highly suggest taking a class FIRST. Most quality classes I've seen tend to stress that, if you haven't purchased yet, wait until after the class. Things that people decide are important often aren't after a course and vice versa. Plus, you get a better idea of what matters to YOU once you've...
Funny, just had that conversation with an instructor. He insisted that .38 special was the best choice for personal protection, but informed me that 9mm was a poor choice (with a sad look on his face).
Of course, most of his research was done many years ago...good at teaching fundamentals and...
Really, a decent basic class would probably help immensely. I've taken a few classes recently and seen dramatic improvement (to the point that I was outshooting the instructor in the most recent class). The order I've seen for teaching the fundamentals (with some minor variations) before...
Wow, I completely missed this before and you're a little ways for regular classes, but for something like this I'd have been interested. Any chance of a mailing list for earlier notice to plan ahead for events like this?
This doesn't change with the direction he's facing...although it CAN get trickier to convince others of the situation largely because of this perceived taboo.
What distances are you talking about here? Looking at some trajectory charts, POI shouldn't really be more than 1.5" to 50 yards. And is it POI, or group sizes?
Plenty of possible issues that spring to mind, but I'm sure someone who knows more can chime in as well:
Sight not holding zero
MOA of...
The best bet for trying out shooting is probably a .22, in my opinion. High Points are cheap to buy, but you probably won't get much back if reselling them. Getting something in a decent quality .22 will probably cost a little more to buy, but costs a LOT less to shoot, and if you ever want to...
Wasn't me, but was a good story anyway. This was a local's...grandfather or great-grandfather?
He'd decided he wanted to ride into town and urged his mother to come along. She resisted since it was a Sunday and didn't believe the Lord wanted them doing such things on Sundays, but he persisted...
One idea might be to invest in some snap caps. I'm paranoid about dry firing, and always use a snap cap since they have such a distinct color. Even then, I'm always double and triple checking to make sure it's a snap cap in there.
I added a trigger shoe and an over-travel stop...and lots of dry firing, and mine's like a somewhat decent DA revolver at this point. I love the capacity for the size and still turn to it for certain situations where capacity/weight is important.
Just about every gun I've purchased recently was test fired at the factory, and they're still considered new. I guess some of it depends on how MANY rounds he fired. Did he just load up one magazine, or did he dump a few boxes through it?
