It is possible the action was cracked and that the burst case was due to what looks like the wrong powder bursting the receiver wide open. One should remember that the pressure acts on a large area inside the locking lug recess. The breach face is subject to a huge forward force while the...
Look up wind drift and spin drift online.
This not what I was looking for but it's a start.

Also try looking up The Magnus effect.
This might give you some idea of what's going on...
The 303 Brit might be a bit tricky if you looking to purchase cast bullets. Throat and bore dimensions can be all over the place. Slugging the throat (forget the bore) will tell you size bullet you need.
There is a way around it though and that is to paper patch a standard 30 cal bullet. That...
One can speed up the slicking process by using something like Autosol Metal Polish (perhaps Flitz it the equivalent?) It would need cleaning out after a while. I haven't tried it myself though so take it under advisement.
Hello Esoteria
I have a hornet Anschutz with a rust damaged bore and what looks like a chamber 'clean up' which has left quite bad rings in the chamber and of course a little large. I load 13.7 grs Lil'Gun under a 55 gr Remington (cheapest there is) or Hornady bullet and R-P cases. Those are...
snake284, wouldn't it worth investing in a good suppressor as well? That will remove the muzzle blast but only an open field type shooting scenario would remove the bullet crack which can be pretty sharp if reflected back at you. I don't know what the status of suppressors is on your side but...
Trust me. I've not only read the book, seen the movie and been there - I am there. My ear canals are narrow and not straight. Doctors and nurses struggle to see my ear drums! Yet my hearing is good. Mind you, I've always used hearing protection. I do have tinnitus but it's from something else.
I didn't mention I only shoot non corrosive primers and powders. I still got rust for the first time in all the years I've been using it. I thought I had not used it or something.
There's a good reason for that. Not all ears are equal. It's simply not possible for some folks to wear ear plugs 'correctly'. I know this! There are designs that can be worn by most but those are hard to find and are expensive.
The solution for loud boomer's is a mini-suppressor, shrouded...
I've used Hoppes #9 for years with no corrosion of any kind then one day .... Rust!
I leave the Hoppes in the bore then reapply and wipe out before use. But I'm getting rust now. Can I still use it after hot water treatment?
Hot water and dishwasher is marvellous stuff for cutting rust...
SlamFire1, are you lubricating your loaded rounds? Cases last forever if you do.
Just to be different, I am loading up a few rounds without sizing the neck. Instead, I am holding the bullet in place with a paper patch/cardboard wad arrangement, augmented with molten wax/bullet lube. We'll...
'Varget', aka AR2208 is all I use. It is almost impossible to overload the case. There is a powder that produces higher velocity in the 303 but who needs more performance? 'Varget' produces all one needs and seems to be quite accurate too. Good starting point powder in my opinion.
It can't be both.;)
I have a No.4 Mk1 with a two groove barrel and a sporter stock. I haven't fired it yet. It is a project rifle waiting for something like a 6.5x55 Swede chambering (or a 6mm Musgrave - a 7x57 is appealing too).
I have a 1902 LMLE with its original bolt shroud. I fitted...
Good groups for the internet? It's easy. Just ignore all the bad groups and keep to three shot groups. Sooner or later a clover leaf is going to accidently happen.
Nice group Bullet! Holy Cow!!!! I only get that with ONE SHOT groups.
Well, I found a source of downloadable user manuals for a bunch of Anschutz rifles but no 1431/32. The 1432, however was chambered in 222. The bolt appears to be identical to my 1431/32.
My philosophy for reduced loads is quite simple. Choose a powder and load that will be safe with a double charge or will over flow with a double charge (or with a safe double charge, will overflow with a triple charge).
PS I have read somewhere that no-one has been able reproduce a 'reduced...
That's it! Trust me on that one! No misfires, no nothing else. Just a blast in the eye socket! Without warning! Have a look at 22lr bolt designs. How many have a gas vent or a flange at the rear of the bolt to deflect gasses?
