It's the salts in perspiration that are hygroscopic. :)
I'm another satisfied Johnson's Wax user. I'd also be happy with Renaissance Wax. I won't use car waxes on firearms; I've read that many of them contain fine abrasives.
Ahrends Retro Revolver Stocks (Link) are on my "buy soon" list. They have a tung oil finish available and, for geeks like me, they'll even leave them unfinished so that I can apply my own tung oil finish. The Retro Target Stocks at the page I've linked might be the sort of thing that you're...
Ooooh, I like it (the term, not the gadget; see my post #9, above). I think that we can also define The Midgley Effect, which results from the propensity of uninformed but well meaning tinkerers (or of people with ulterior motives) to substantially or completely ruin a good design by the...
Yep, it is easy. With the gun unloaded, unscrew the fore-end cap and remove the fore-end and barrel. Wear eye protection; rarely, the spring can escape from the front of the magazine. You'll want to arrange the steel friction ring and the bronze friction piece which are adjacent to the recoil...
Thanks for the clarification. For defensive use, a person wants skill. To my mind, then, the best starter kit is a handful of good magazines (as described above) and cleaning equipment (e.g., Bore-Snake, cleaning rod, some CLP and so forth). Then focus on the motto of our "Shotguns" Forum...
Things have been getting better in my neck of the woods for a few months now. I admit that I got the last two boxes of .35 Rem on the shelf (Remington Core-Lokt) when I visited my local store just before deer season, and they were out of the kind that I'd wanted to use this year (Hornady)...
You bet. Wadcutters ruled the roost in bullseye competition back in the days when revolvers were used there. They'll be excellent for plinking; enjoy them. :)
Not to freak anybody out, but I think that a government agency only needs a subpoena if facebook doesn't want to turn over its records. If I read the Terms of Service correctly, facebook is free to use, pass on or sell anything that's posted there.
What I see reads, in part (copyright...
Yes, chevyforlife21, you're right. "Petroleum distillate" is a three-dollar term that means anything that's refined out of crude oil, which is itself a mixture of things from heavy tar to lightweight naphtha and beyond.
They're also called hydrocarbons: gasoline, Diesel fuel, kerosene, mineral...
Not at all, but it can be a lot of fun. There's a lot of neat old stuff out there, and you'll be able to find some terrific deals.
:what: Wait...did I type that out loud? Nooooo...send all of those dirty, nasty old S&W and Colt revolvers to Meeeeee!
Note to newer folks: pinned...
Data can be aggregated, analyzed and sold. It's a marketing gold mine. When your data are there to be sold, there'll be little chance of your affecting to whom they'll be sold. There's a Neal Stephenson short story, published fifteen years ago, that did some foreshadowing of the idea. This...
Tirod, just a moment:
Well, if that's the case (and I'm not convinced that it is), you've precluded the statements in the rest of that post.
"There are no data" is an a priori disproof of the assertion that "it makes no difference." Not having any data means, quite specifically, that we do not...
I've been using CLP. I'll probably switch to Mobil 1, or to the automatic transmission fluid that I use on my other guns. I clean it with Hoppe's and copper solvent before I lubricate it anyway. Thanks for posting this stuff, guys.
Fixed A2 stock for myself; tele stock for my Mom, but only for the shorter length of pull that it permits. She doesn't wear body armor or climb in and out of vehicles with a rifle, either.
I use a normal A2 configuration AR (20" barrel) for service rifle matches. I'd also like an all-around...
