    ammo interchangeability

Well, Lyman's 50th edition reloading manual calls them interchangeable. There is a very tiny difference on case length which is inconsequential. Either round will chamber in either gun. Which brings us to.... I've been shooting Tok ammo in my broomie for years, and a few thousand rounds later...

Help me understand... a 10lb rifle 'worth' it's weight in gold?

Pedersoli made a nice double rifle in 45-70 for around five grand. Don't know if they still make it. Re-chambering it to 45-120 with the 3-1/4" case can turn it into a suitable elephant rifle, even at low 45-70 trapdoor pressures. Recoil would be harsh, as the gun doesn't weigh that much.

Help me understand... a 10lb rifle 'worth' it's weight in gold?

I have seen, and held in my hands, a 4 bore Purdy double rifle. This was in California in the 1980s. Only a handful were ever made. The man that owned it turned down an offer of a million dollars from a rich client. A Purdy is like the Rolls Royce of firearms. Order one today and see how many...

Colion Noir - NY Judge does not allow the 2nd Amendment in the courtroom?

New York reminds me of California, where I lived for 15 years, back in the 70s and 80s. The state is mostly red, except for a few concentrated liberal infestations ( L.A, the Bay Area and Sacratomato ) that poison the state. Same deal with New York and N.Y.City. Now, I am living in Illinois...

    Scheels Sporting Goods

We had a Gander Mountain years ago. They always had a lot of used guns, which I loved. They also recognized what a type 3 FFL was. I really miss them. I once got a Remington rolling block #2 rifle for a song, which they mistakenly identified as a #4 boys rifle. It was worth twice what I paid...

    ammo interchangeability

You are correct. Forgot about that one. Not sure about that one, but I wouldn't shoot .32 ACP ammo in an old black powder .32 revolver.

    Scheels Sporting Goods

Springfield is over 150 miles from me. Iowa city is 90. The Sheel's in IC is the centerpiece of the Coral Ridge Mall and it is a monster. My only gripe is the almost total lack of used guns. And the only muzzle loaders present look like refugees from a freak show.

    45-70 Factory Ammo Question

Regarding original trapdoor strength, Remington once did a test to demonstrate how strong their rolling block action was. They filled the barrel to halfway with powder and jammed a dozen or so bullets into it. The gun held. So did a trapdoor, same load!!! This is not to say you can go out...

    ammo interchangeability

Unless you have a Remington 550 or 550-1 ; in which case you can shoot everything from CB caps to high velocity LRs and the gun will function flawlessly.

    ammo interchangeability

You beat me to it, NIGHTLORD40K. I have a nice type 99 and it will feed and chamber 308 ammo. Mine feeds five out of the magazine as well. Of course, the cases are trashed after doing this. You end up with a case that has a shoulder and the tiniest bit of a neck. But don't stop with 308...

How Much Land to Shoot On?

I live on five acres of land in rural Illinois. What I shoot depends on what time of the year it is and what kind of crops are in. I am in the center of "flatland, USA" Corn, and to a lesser extant soybeans, are an excellent deterrent to ricochets. In the warm months, when the crops are in, I...

Hi Dave. Sounds like the same thing the Army did with the approximately 50,000 early gas trap Garands. About fifty are known to exist today.

    calling 22 hornet guys

I have two hornets. Both are Savage model 23Ds. Inexpensive guns in their day but fine shooters. They are full sized guns (OK, MAN sized! Now the feminists will hate me! ) with 25 inch barrels. I got the one with the cheap Tasco scope for $100 at a gun show. Guy warned me that the scope kept...

I tried to ignore this, but darn it, somebody had to buy it...

JT, I've drooled on the picture of the beauty ever since you first posted it. Pre- model 10 K frame Smiths in that condition are rare and most of them are .38 specials. The 32-20 chambering is a bit more difficult to find and it makes the gun that much more valuable. I was going to PM you with a...
