    It felt good

My high school team, in fourth place in their division, did great tonight. A 50, 48, 2 46s and av42.

    CVA Scout

Did shoot a deer in November with it. 240 grain JHP and 21.5 grains of oid 2400 that I loaded in 2004 for my 29 when IL began its slow journey out of the dark ages and allowed deer hunting with a handgun. Double lung at 68 lasered yards. It ran 25 yards uphill, fell and rolled about the same...

    Neck turning

The 30-06 and 308s were loaded with match brass, sorted by weight, trimmed, neck reamed and loaded v with heat treated, bore sized matched weight bullets, weighed powder charges and weighed Japan fillers. All weights to .1 grain. Seated to touch lands. Lengthy process but fun for a third shift...

    .357 Magnum Rifle

Two here. A Henry single shot and an original 1892 Winchester little brother and I ha rebarreled to 357 back in the sixties when it wasn't a mortal sin to do such things. 24" rifle.

    Favorite 45 Colt Cowboy loads?

Done several thousand with 200 rnfp and five grains of Clays. For me, A real cowboy load would be a 255 grain (Lyman 4545190) and about 8-9 grains of Unique. V enough to get 875 fps like the real cowboys had. Or 35 grains of fffg.

What have you done in the reloading room today

Two boxes of 1 oz #8 trap loads, located all the stuff for my 30-30 cast bullet project, bought under size brush and mop for bore cleaning. Slow but steady. BTW, cannot tell the difference in the breaks from 1 oz 8 and 1 1\8 7 1/2 at 16 yards from my 1975 full choke 870 TB. (with nearly 250K...

    Neck turning

I'm about to embark on my first neck turning experience. I've neck reamed before and had moderate results, but as a retired machinist/machine shop supervisor, know that a dealer follows the existing hole and doesn't "true" the neck to the bore. My project is cast bullets from a pristine 788...

    It felt good

Shot trap last night after a four month layoff taking care of my wife who had debilitating foot surgery and who was wheelchair confined. No complaint, "for better or worse, in sickness". Sneaking up on 60 years together. Cold, breezy night and since we got rained out last week had to shoot two...

    Finally in the club!

Took me three years to get in the club I finally joined in 1980. Still in, serving as a director since 2010, and my son has been in since about 2000. Three traps, 100 yard rifle, ten bay pistol, archery, and a beautiful clubhouse. 130 members. Never regretted it and only fifteen minutes from...

    New Blue Python BROKE! ugghh

Hate to say it but Colt ain't Colt any more. The original Colt, workers and Prix have gone the way of the Bison. Sorry. I have only two Colts left. A second model Sport Woods man and my late brother's Scout. No more. Now owned by a Czech company (good) with most stuff made in Turkey (not...

Turkey gun for very recoil sensitive lady

I bought a Stevens 320 for my wife because it had 3" capacity. She hated it. I dug out my old 20 ga 1100 and some 1 1/8 oz loads of copper plated #5 shot and, no problem. Like me, blue steel, walnut, and low recoil equals a happy hunter. Going on 58 years and two sons, nine grandkids, 45...

    Mark type Rugers

Not wanting to get my hand slapped for being disparaging, I merely want to note that, like Kleenex, some terms have become generic. Ruger's first pistol was called the Standard Model. They later brought out two versions with target sights and called them Mark Is. After the end of the a...

    new Henry rifle

I have a similar gun, the Rossi Rio Grande, in 45-70. It is a handful. A trapdoor load at the upper end of the data is plenty for my ancient shoulder. Have fun.

    Trap gun for a beginner

You would not believe the variety of guns that show up in the hands of the high school team I coach. I had to discourage on kid and his father from trying to use a Mossberg 20 ga youth model. The kid stands 5' 10" and weighs at least 180. They did have with them a full size 500 12 ga (with a...

    Trap gun for a beginner

I found a Jack West trap stock on flea bay and used it to assemble a sorta comp 1100 when I was rehabbing my back in '13. They are out there. I have a quiver of 1100 barrels from slug through i.c., mod, full. Rather have one with tubes but that might just be too modern for me. As I said...
