    Teaching my Son to Reload

Continued on the reloading teaching and learning post - A couple of days ago I took my son through the basics of rifle reloading. From setting each of the dies and showing what happened in each process. I had him adjust the sizing die, showed him the effect on a fired case and compared with a...

    Western reloading supplies

Looks like a scam site for sure. The contact us doesn't list address, email or phone number. The text CoalCracker posted above lists Western CCI primers in stock... MidwayUSA is your reloading supply store. Yep, they've lifted content from other sites and created the scam site. Several links go...

    Teaching my Son to Reload

Follow up post. My son read the Lyman reloading chapters and even made notes on some questions to ask me. So, tonight we went over the questions and the processes for pistol and rifle reloading. One question was about lube on cases. I explained why it's needed, and about carbide or Hornady's...

    Teaching my Son to Reload

I've had my 14 YO son help me on the reloading bench for a while. He recently "discovered" my Glock 22 and .40 cal. Went through the stash of 400 rounds in a few outings. So, I had him help me with the reloading. We loaded three different bullets that I hadn't loaded before, so showed him to...

    Pixie Dust

Love it, those pixies are tricky and mischievous. I've used up some of my various old/pulled powders during New Year's. Run a line or two of powder to a small pile and start it from one of those store packaged shower of sparks "fireworks".

    Weird range pick up brass.

And, 9MM will fire in 45 ACP as well. --- ask me how I know that one too!

    Weird range pick up brass.

As to the guppy belly brass, even with some very old Glocks (17 and 22) I haven't created brass like that. But, my 9MM Bushmaster tended to do something similar as it would start extracting the case before enough energy had dissipated. It tended to be most of the way around, but scary looking...

    Weird range pick up brass.

It gets your attention, because generally, it will sound like a weak report and will not cycle the slide back. So, you tap and rack and hopefully you notice the severely expanded case. If not, then you fire again, and go through the same motions. -- I've seen a buddy of mine do it on one of my...

    Weird range pick up brass.

The first one is a 9MM fired in a .40. The second one is an example of the guppy belly brass from a seriously unsupported chamber.

From some other conversations -- IIRC, MEHavey uses the colors to differentiate the alloys/hardness for his cast bullets and them uses them for selected applications.

    300BLK resizing?

OP, what brass are you using? Is it factory 300 blk cases or converted 223/556? If so, which headstamps are you using? There are some brands of converted cases that have thicker brass and particularly at the neck they end up being too thick to work right for most.

    I’ve got 99 cases…

...rounds ends up upside down in the box. Or an empty spot is created in the middle. I don't know how that happens . But the next time we get together - I hear something to the effect of "you @R#@*hole" as he starts unpacking. He doesn't reload as he also worries that his attention will...

    I’ve got 99 cases…

Oh, this poll is interesting and I don't honestly know how to answer it. Are we talking rifle, for plinking, for blammo? Are we talking pistol for semi auto, for revolver? I have different levels of headstamp sorting consistency ranges for the different cartridges I load. For rifle I mostly...

    .380 ACP

Capt Kirk, FMJ will have an exposed lead base. That's how FMJ is formed/made. Hollow points have the exposed lead at the point. If you want fully covered, then plated is what you would need. Some companies market a TMJ (total metal jacket) which are plated, albeit thick, but plated. And of...
