There is a local guy ( I don't know him just through the talk of the group.) that does this and for the $250+ per he has constant incoming.
Yup. The customer buys a Benchmade, Spyderco, etc then spends another $100+ on parts to make it look different. Good $ in that aftermarket arena.

Great post HSO!
Some years back ordered an Eafengrow among reviews at the time that stating there were issues with opening, locking, etc. My version was sharp though the locking and opening not very smooth. Lock engagement so-so. The blade was centered when closed and detent on the firm side...
Have a similar situation and finding re-training into an area that I have interest is a long starting journey. I've found it hard to absorb new material and especially so if pushing myself into an area that doesn't motivate. Long ago did some in the IT field but left it, now trying to get some...
We have a variety of critters that come into the yard so I put down some of the spray into the planters and while short lived 2-3 days it worked to keep them out.
Finished this boning style last night: ATS-34 nitrogen cryo'd RC59-60, stabilized mallee burl handle scales. 10.25"/260mm OAL, blade 5.50"/104mm. Vine file work on top and bottom of handle. Glad to get the last of this older steel out of here, still a nice steel though out of flavor.
A random piece that I call the "feather". Started out with a flame agate handle but even with diamond it was slow grinding. Possibly find a colorful jasper to put into this instead. 16.25" OAL

A yanagiba style single side ground blade rubbed to a 1,500 grit finish. The lower is a variant blade profile with Chinese writing stone handle scales and 416 heat treated SS bolsters, the vine file work goes all the way around the handle:
In exchange for re-handling some knives this Henckels 8" chef knife. Made some mods to the blade profile and removed the long bolster, before and after. Going to reduce the handle as it is a bit biggish for our smaller hands. The balance was already decent so taking that bit off the front...
Finishing this kitchen piece:
Did a pair with the user request for ATS-34, .125" nitrogen cryo RC59-60, 9.75 OAL, 5" edge. Handled with macassar ebony.
