    Are Colt barrels any good?

Yes, colt barrels are good, but come at a premium. There are other good barrels out there as well. Criterion, Centurion, Daniel Defense.... My goto has been Criterion and I haven't been disappointed.

    Barrel Treatments for 300 BO

If ultimate accuracy is a concern, I think stainless from a reputable manufacturer would be the way to go, but if good accuracy is the goal with price being a concern, there are lots of options. My latest addition is a 300 BO upper. I had an upper and bolt carrier group laying around, so I...

    Bench scope

Good catch. They've been out so long that I don't distinguish.

    Bench scope

Man, with a 1k budget, there are lots of choices. I know this might be considered old school now, but I recently found myself looking for a scope for reaching out to 800 and I landed on a vortex PST. It's still a good bang for the buck. They're a bit heavy for what they are and the zero stop is...

Ruger Mini Thirty. On the fence.

What? Over the past few decades, the price of the minis has done nothing but go up and you can't just blame the value of the dollar going down. The price of ARs has declined substantially over the past few decades despite the value of the dollar going down. 5.56 ammo is never going back to .30...

Ruger Mini Thirty. On the fence.

I was, at one time, a big fan of the Minis, especially the 30. X39 ammo was around $100 for a case of 1440 rounds and the rifles were dirt cheap compared to an AR. These days, the mini just doesn't make any sense. The rifle is expensive, mags are expensive and the ammo is expensive. If you...

To red dot or not to red dot...

Going with a red dot is a no brainer. It's definitely a better way of acquiring a target. You cannot just put a red dot on your firearm and expect to see an instant difference or advantage. Put a red dot on your firearm and shoot as much as it takes to change what you've been doing for however...

    A spare reload if needed

This would imply that revolvers are infallible. In my experience, when an auto jams up, it's usually a tap and rack or at worst, drop the mag, clear and insert another mag. When a revolver jams up, and they do, it ain't so easy to fix.

310 yards, Ruger American Ranch 6.5 grendel

Good shooting. It's good to see that it shoots that well. I have a ruger ranch in x39 that I've had out to 400 and I like it alot. Unfortunately, I can't get the ammo it likes any more and have 2k rounds left. When that's gone, I'm going to either the Grendel or a 300 BO.

    A spare reload if needed

I think that's not much of an argument for not carrying a spare mag. If we were to go down that road, the logical cure would be to carry a single stack with a spare mag. This sort of thinking is in line with whether you should keep one in the chamber. If you're worried about that, carry a...

    A spare reload if needed

I also keep a spare mag, in case of a malfunction. As reliable as firearms are now, they are still mechanical devices with moving parts. If you have a firearm that you can say has never malfunctioned, id say that you havent shot it enough. It's nice knowing that you have the spare ammo too.

    Optics on handguns

I remember too when the same discussion was had on many forums regarding red dots on ARs and many of the same arguments were made and yet, here we are.

    Optics on handguns

I was, for a long time, resistant to the concept of a red dot on a handgun. I had the same attitude that many here have. I didn't care for them and told myself the lie that I was faster with irons. For distances where I'm realistically just point shooting, I'm equally as fast with or without a...

    Rmr 75gr bthp over rl15

Honestly? I'd call it a day, in terms of load development. Maybe tweak bullet seating depth /crimp a bit just to see what it gets you. I was always anal about loading for an autoloader. The possibility of bullet setback during chamber was always on my mind. I ultimately started crimping with a...

The description indicates their being available as a pre-order. I'm gonna wait until they're actually available.

Mini 30 Magazines - Which ones?

I thought we were talking about a Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39. What I said above wasn't for a Mini.

Mini 30 Magazines - Which ones?

For a mini 30, my guess would be that it's more work than it's worth. On the Ranch rifle, however, it was a no brainer.

    New (to me) Cartridge

When I shooting a lot of .308, I fell into using Varget and Reloader 15. As a result, I sort of just defaulted to using one of the two when I could and always got good results, or more specifically, I was able to work a load that gave good results. When I was going for tiny groups, I tried to...

    What motivates your gun-related expenditures?

I voted addiction, although I blame it on my eyes. It amazes me, the number of things I needed and bought and didn't even know I needed them until I saw them.

Stopped Cleaning your Gun! I did - You Too?

I suppose it would depend on the firearm, but I definitely don't clean after every range session. I shoot mostly AR type fire arms and Glocks. I inspect each for parts wear every couple/few thousand rounds and the inspection requires removing the heavy stuff, so that's pretty much as far as the...
