Carry Options... Is your gun "shootable" under stress?

One thing Mas (and others stress) is that you need realistic training with the gun. We know that most carriers do not do this. Then practice - perhaps not of just shooting groups at the square rang. We ask about EDC and get lists of guns. A proportion are more COSplay and not optimal. Folks...

    What did you shoot today?

Glock Gen 4 G17. Lots of 'A' hits. Time stinks as knees preclude the track meet aspect of USPSA. Love that gun. For me the grip angle complaint is BS.

Opinions on the perfect nightstand handgun.

I think any quality semi would do. The hand held light is a good idea. For me, a G17 and Surefire is a winning combo. I can't see significant advantages to other quality guns. They are all pretty much the same in practical usage. Bearcreek is extremely right on about training over hardware...

    Naval Rifles

I I imagine if you put it in your ear, that would do the job. Terrible thing to contemplate. I also read that MacArthur carried one when he went ashore in the Philippines in the rare chance that the Japanese captured him. Is that true? Who knows?

    Gun Cart for range.

We keep our rifles in soft cases in the four wheel collapsible carts. Our local rules are that you bring the case up to the line and get the rifle out. Some folks do have golf car like carts with holders for the rifle. They said they cost a good buck. The collapsible carts are cheap. I also use...

    Naval Rifles

The idea was that you couldn't get out of a major turret. Also, the story said it was in footwear or socks against the leg. If this is true - I dunno.

    Naval Rifles

Slamfire - the derringer was for when the turret was on fire or you are underwater, waiting to drown. Thus, the risk of accidental explosion really didn't manner. It was to chose a less awful death.

    Naval Rifles

I read somewhere that crew members in battleship turrets might carry a Remington 2 barrel 41 caliber revolver in case they were stuck in a turret and unable to get out in a burning or sinking ship. Ouch! Big naval guns are done for. Their range is too short and coming close to shore makes you...

    Gun Cart for range.

At the last match, a guy had one of those two wheel fancy rigs - fitted for his guns, etc. Then he had asked somebody else to bring a few boxes of bullets for him. Heavy. So he asked me if he could put them in my 4 wheel Academy cart for the walk back to the parking lot. I didn't charge him.

What's your preferred every day carry?

https://d74722.p3cdn1.secureserver.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/2024-05-RFTS-Newsletter.pdf From Tom Givens - a well known trainer, one of the best: In this discussion, what's your predicted usage, stakes vs. the risks. Some points, some already made - 1. Is the gun COSplay - I get that...

    Naval Rifles

At around the holidays, USNI has a great half price sale on their books. Worth waiting for. I've a shelf full of them. I got interested in naval history as a kid when I read a kid's book by Fletcher Pratt on the Monitor and Merricmac - Virginia. I gave it to my nephew many years ago. Then...

    Naval Rifles

Caliber is trick question when it comes to naval rifles. It is a great site though. If a battleship had a 45 caliber gun, what did that mean?

    My Carry Routine

I just remembered this. A relative of mine (yes, he was a young substantial man) was walking with his phone. Two guys stopped him and said to give them his phone. He gave the phone with vigor into the nose of of one of them. They fled.

    My Carry Routine

I confess to a similar load out. Yes, I have a specific pen. I also have a small Surefire which I have gotten much use out of. An OC. A Spyderco - which I get much use out of with attacking Amazon packges. A semi OWB and an extra mag. Guess what in a back pocket a SWAT-T tourniquet. Sometimes...

    Not Quite a Convert But...

There is a classic horrible case. Daughter is supposed to be away. She comes home early. She decides to 'scare' Dad by jumping out and saying BOO. Dad arrives, sees the front door open. He decides to 'clear' the house. He enters, she jumps out. He hits her COM with a 357 - she dies saying: Daddy...

Open Carry in a Traffic Stop

While I agree that disarming me might have not been necessary, I wasn't going to argue with an officer. Too many folks getting shoved into police cars yelling MUH RIGTHZ or being whacked on the side of the head. Or looking down a muzzle. At another accident, I told the officer I had a Glock...

Open Carry in a Traffic Stop

Follow up - at one of the accidents caused by a teenager running a stop in front of me, as I said the officer unloaded my gun and took control of it. As we were winding down, he gave at back and watched me load up and holster. At that time, the kid's dad rolls up, to help his kid. He sees me...

Open Carry in a Traffic Stop

Can't speak to OC but I've dealt with the law in TX when concealed. Three times after bad traffic accidents - not my fault. When the officers got to me, I said that I have a CHL and have a gun concealed on my left hip, What do you want me to do? In two cases, the officers said - No problem...

Considering my Glock 22 for EDC

I found that the G19 finger grooved guns didn't fit my grip that well. However, the grooves on a G17 Gen 4 were really comfortable. But a flat G5 was fine also. Just the 19 didn't work.

Considering my Glock 22 for EDC

I've found that JM Custom Kydex holsters - OWB work just fine for this old man's Glock 17s or 1911. Don't like inside the belt holsters, on the side or in the front. My preference.
