You've Come a Long Way, Baby...

I have the book in front of me. I see no such footnote. Can you provide proof of this? I work at the Rock Island Arsenal Museum ( a U.S. Army military Museum ) and I have come in contact with more than a few "Special Operators " in the past few years. The Rock Island Arsenal is an active...

You've Come a Long Way, Baby...

True. But that is exactly what Eric Bana said in the movie, true or not.

    Colorado Weapons Ban

Don't have time to read all the replies, this may have been mentioned already. Illinoi's AWB took effect on the first day of this year. It banned the possession, sale and MANUFACTURE of any weapon on the excrement manifest. Existing banned weapons were grandfathered in, but you were required to...

The 44-40 Cartridge Component Data Library

Not a lot of interest in the 44-40 data, it would seem. But this was obviously an enormous project that took a lot of time and effort, so I thank you for that!! And welcome to the Forum. I'm a little surprised this thread wasn't mover to the revolver section.

You've Come a Long Way, Baby...

Ahhh... Yes! Eric Bana, in Black Hawk Down. He played a Delta Force Operator if my memory is correct. When some over zealous officer noted that he had a Magazine inserted and a round chambered in his weapon, with the safety off. this was the reply.

    Are Colt barrels any good?

I, also, had that exact same gun during the 80s. I won a lot of "dimes" matches with it. Tape a Dime to the X ring at 100 yards, and everybody gets a shot. Those whom dimes are still there drop out. The last remaining dime won the pot. It was deadly serious competition, as the buy in was...

    how much is too much?

There is no way that gun would be worth 25K unless it was once owned by a famous person or historical figure. If it were 100% brand new and unfired I still doubt it would be worth 25K. If you shoot a 99+% gun, a high end collectable, and wear off one percent of the finish, you just cut the...

Why Do You Carry A Gun?

Do you know Clint Smith, by any chance? Lol. I carry because it irritates liberals/ progressives/ commies/ idiots. Same thing.

    ammo interchangeability

No, you don't. That is another myth that has been repeated for decades. The former Soviet Union did not allow one subjected nation to load pistol ammo that was dangerous to shoot in the pistols of the other member nations.. And, as we know today, the CZ-52s were a weak, flawed design that had...

    ammo interchangeability

For all of you who think Tokarev ammo is unsafe in a C-96... It is loaded to less pressure than than the 9X25 Mauser was. (37,500 PSI. ) A C-96 in good condition will have no trouble handling Tokarev ammo.

    ammo interchangeability

You didn't have any problems because the .327 is loaded to nearly twice the pressures of a .32 ACP. Shooting the latter in an old, black powder revolver is an invitation for disaster.

    ammo interchangeability

Winchester white box 7.62X25 comes in at around 1650 FPS with the 85 grain bullet. Not necessarily higher pressures, just advances in modern propellants. Ammo companies aren't going to increase pressures on a cartridge that has been around for almost a century without a warning on the box. Too...

    ammo interchangeability

That's because most manufactures load their ammo with pressures safe in any gun chambered for that round. Most simply state that the ammo should only be used in guns in good condition and marked for that particular caliber. You might have a bit of trouble firing 44 Russian ammo in a 44-40. The...

    ammo interchangeability

Cartridges Of the World lists the Mauser round @ 1410 FPS and the Tok round @ 1390 FPS. I don't think either figure is correct today.

    ammo interchangeability

Totally wrong! If it was unsafe to shoot Tok ammo in a C-96 there would be warnings on the box saying so. Read my last post and let it sink in. A C-96 in good condition can safely shoot any 7.62X25 factory loaded round, including ComBlock ammo. You are quite correct about the Super and the...

    ammo interchangeability

Well, Lyman's 50th edition reloading manual calls them interchangeable. There is a very tiny difference on case length which is inconsequential. Either round will chamber in either gun. Which brings us to.... I've been shooting Tok ammo in my broomie for years, and a few thousand rounds later...

Help me understand... a 10lb rifle 'worth' it's weight in gold?

Pedersoli made a nice double rifle in 45-70 for around five grand. Don't know if they still make it. Re-chambering it to 45-120 with the 3-1/4" case can turn it into a suitable elephant rifle, even at low 45-70 trapdoor pressures. Recoil would be harsh, as the gun doesn't weigh that much.
