Lever gun caliber decision……45 Colt vs 44 Magnum/44 Spec

Why is the .44 Mag better for deer hunting than .45 Colt? And why is the .45 Colt only good for cowboy shooting? Buffalo Bore "Deer Grenade" hunting rounds for both calibers shown below. The .45 Colt has more energy.

Lever gun caliber decision……45 Colt vs 44 Magnum/44 Spec

I was surprised to see that on Midway's site, there are 62 varieties of .45 Colt ammo, and 64 of .44 Rem mag. Not really a bit of difference, with both costing the same.

Lever gun caliber decision……45 Colt vs 44 Magnum/44 Spec

I chose .45 Colt. But, I also reload and my first "bear" gun was a Ruger Bisley in .45 Colt. Both calibers have a lot of plinking rounds available, but the cheapest is still over $.90 a round... https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1018135345?pid=677381...

    A '73 Lever Action in.....9mm? Interesting!

    A '73 Lever Action in.....9mm? Interesting!

Still waiting for someone to build a lever-gun in 10mm. If I could find a PCC in 10mm, it would replace my .45 Colt carbine as my camping and hiking rifle.

    I don't *get* PCC rifles

I have two PCCs; an Extar EP-9 9mm and a Henry Black lever-action in .45 Colt. Both are "working" guns in that they have specific roles. The EP-9 is IMHO, the best tool for home defense due to 32-round capacity, light, laser, and single-point sling. The Henry is my ATV/camping/hiking carbine...

    Largest caliber you own?

I misspoke. Those are the calibers of ammo I found for rifles he had. No idea what the .505 Gibbs was chambered in. This is one of his bolt guns, and it must have been in something big if he was taking a Cape Buffalo...

Help me understand... a 10lb rifle 'worth' it's weight in gold?

The most I've spent on a firearm is $900. Anything that I needed to do as far as hunting, self-defense, or target shooting was accomplished with firearms costing that much or less. My late father dabbled in the world of fine firearms and I inherited a few examples. I consider myself blessed...

    My $600 Tisas D10 10mm 1911 amazes me at 55 and 100yds.

No idea why I tried 231. It works well for my .40 S&W, though.

    My $600 Tisas D10 10mm 1911 amazes me at 55 and 100yds.

I did a sight upgrade of my Tisas D10 and took it to the range to see if it was dialed in. One shot at a steel silhouette at 100yds was all the proof I needed that this pistol was capable of great things.

Shooting my Sharps .50-90 and blowing up cans.

You would think that at my age and experience, that I would realize that shooting a can of soup with a 10mm at only 5yds away would be a bad idea. Nope. Poor Arlo is still licking himself and finding little treats, lol.

Shooting my Sharps .50-90 and blowing up cans.

I had a great time today shooting this rifle! I did underestimate the recoil of this black powder beast, and after just a few shots, my shoulder is tender. I have absolutely no use for this thing, but know that I will never part with it. (my channel is not monetized, so hope is OK to link...

    Largest caliber you own?

Just got back from the range. Waiting for the videos to upload. What a great and humbling experience! I shot a group at 55yds and then some canned goods. The shock and awe of this rifle is just amazing! Will have the YT video edited later tonight.

    Largest caliber you own?

Before my dad passed, I had no reason to own anything bigger than a .35 Whelen or .30-06 AI. Elk was the biggest thing I would ever shoot and I never got the thrill of shooting something that hurt you. But my father, who hunted dangerous game in Africa, Alaska, and Siberia, had such a need for...

    Burro Defense Gun

I've done a fair amount of desert exploration in Arizona from the Prescott area to the Yuma area. Seen lots of burro sign, but never one in person. I have seen a feral mule once, and lot's of these guys... I've never considered the thought of shooting an equine species in self-defense. But...

    Optics on handguns

I did a video review of the Ruger Max 9 that came from the factory with a Crimson Trace red dot. I shot it next to a Glock G19 with a Burris Fastfire III red dot, and my daily carry pistol, a Sig P365, which has no red dot. In slow-fire shooting at 25 yards, both red dot-equipped pistols were...

Why Do You Carry A Gun?

I work with quite a few millennials and Gen Z types who have grown up indoors on video games and anime. They are completely cut off from reality and the outside world. I have been confronted multiple times as to why I own firearms and why I enjoy them. My answer remains the same... "Because...
