I started with and still have the "deluxe shooting jacket". Its a pretty heavy duty stiff canvas, almost like I would imagine a straight jacket. Its $130 and I think its your best bet to get started. I love mine and think it's a very good compromise to get started...
Depends on what you're doing. One of my favorite cheap targets are paper plates. You get like a hundred for a few bucks at wal mart and just staple them to cardboard, draw a dot with a marker if you want. My favorite to do drills with pistol especially would be one plate for center mass and...
Two things that helped my RCBS measure
1) Absolutely go for a powder baffle, they're about 6 bucks and help out a lot. Like a lot of others I don't know why they don't just ship standard. You could probably make your own in a few minutes with some tin snips too if you were so inclined...
For reference here is an update on the case everyone is referring to:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/01/18/traveling-mans-gun-arrest-appealed-supreme-court/
I doubt you would get diverted all the way to CA but if I had to guess I would say try your best to refuse to take possession...
So I believe the detachable carry handle will just get you out to 600 where the fixed handle should get you to at least 800. I'm sure if you asked he could just use the flat top upper receiver on a service rifle build and you might need to get a sight from somewhere else.
Also I'm pretty...
One thing I think would be neat is to demonstrate unique mechanical features of the guns and possibly up close. This gives a unique insight into possibly rare guns that people haven't seen and also if any viewers ever do get to handle one in a shop or a show they will be more knowledgeable...
A lot of people should chime in shortly but the first step is to get a reloading manual. I have been using the Speer manual and like it but the first ~150 pages of almost every manual out there are the step by step instructions of how reloading works. That should give you a better idea of the...
Bullets vs. cartridges doesn't bother me very much unless its in the context of reloading because then it legitimately gets confusing if we are referring to the projectile or the finished product.
And the clip/magazine only bothers me when its someone who is pretending like they know what...
I was already kind of partial to PMAGS and then I also saw this video from MagPul running over a bunch of magazines with a truck. Its pretty impressive what they can hold up to

Just wait till you fire it, I know my first reloads, 357 mags, I pointed the gun down range and kind of shielded my face as I pulled the trigger...I've gained a little bit of confidence since then.
For cleaning I recommend one of these
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=115057
It works great and will fit any AR. Its machined anodized aluminum, it has a nice finish and is a quality piece even though its a bit more expensive than standard bore guides.
I use these
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=671923
they have a bit better noise reduction level and are cheaper. I think they work great and they have an audio in jack so you can hook up a phone or ipod etc..(I know it sounds stupid but I've used them for plane rides...
+1 on this. I was going to get a pistol grip with a buttstock for mine until I realized that the safety would be impossible to work. I like the standard stock just fine however and the 500 is a great gun.
Call whoever is in charge of your homeowner's insurance and they will give you a rate for firearms, like a previous poster said, of some $XX.XX per $1000 of coverage and you put together a list of items you want to insure.
Although its good to know the NRA limit went up from $1000 to $2500
Great looking rifle. I've been considering picking one up for a while. I have to ask, did it come with a soldier tag? I really think that is one of the neatest things about those rifles is that its an historical piece that some come with a bit of an extra story behind them.
I recommend trying to find a highpower rifle clinic. My local club usually has one each year to help people get into the sport. The army marksmanship unit always does a 1 day class at the Eastern and Western games in addition to the small arms school at Camp Perry. I have attended this at the...
Thats one of the first things I checked. It sighted in just fine, I put up a 0.5" 3 shot group at 100 yards, its just I expected with the canted base I would have more runout on my elevation adjustments than I do and I was wondering if anyone else had a similar situation with their setup.
So its a Remington 700 5r, with Badger Rings and base. The base appears canted, I can't quite figure out how to measure it without unmounting the scope however.
It is a new gun, and I am just starting to get it sighted in/broken in (I have a total of 11 rounds through it). For my first...
