I’ve seen it first hand. A family friend was shooting factory ammo (nothing over 168 grain) through his garand and bent the op rod. Misinformation? Okay then.
You cannot shoot any commercially loaded ammo in a garand as you will bend the op rod as it has a different pressure curve than the military ball ammo it was designed to shoot. Either reload a hunting style projectile to military ball ammo specs or buy an adjustable gas plug.
Looks like the bottom right rear side of slide has been notched out at slide rail. I’d be Leary what other mods have been made. But the hole in rear slide plate is normal.
Just picked up a used nib unfired 638. The crown only shows 3 cuts on top and you can't see the bottom 2. Is this typical. If so please explain further.

So I don't need to worry about this stuff leaving scratches do I not sure if its abrasive. Does it matter in what pattern you apply it (circle, straight, etc).
