Walther PP vs Makarov PM vs… Everything Else

Have an East German Mak, a West German PP in 7.65 and a West German PPK/s in .380. They’re all reliable but I wouldn’t describe the PPK/s as pleasant to shoot with the original grips. The Mak with Pearce grips and the PP as is are both a pleasure to shoot and probably as accurate as small...

    Remington 380

It’s my summer pocket pistol. My only complaint is that the magazine release button is a bit prominent for a pocket pistol, occasionally popping the magazine. Have to take the time to figure out the retention spring and I’ll take it out and shave it down a bit.

    Beretta 71, Finally!

My 70s. I don’t shoot it often but I’ll never get rid of it. It’s a heap o’ 20th Century cool.

    Who dislikes/hates the Beretta 92FS/M9?

Beautiful, reliable, classic pistol. I just couldn’t get used to that trigger, though. The double-action was a mile long.

What is the last gun that you bought?

‘62 Ernst Thaelmann Makarov I got a few weeks ago.

Should I have passed on it?

He’s right. I like the old topbreaks, but as Americana, not shooters. This S&W scratches that itch.

    Another bite at the apple?

Oh, jeez.... Multiple Webley Mk. IVs, Tokarevs, Makarovs, Ruger GP-100s, Walther PPs, Colt Trooper Mk. IIIs, S&W 1917s and Model 19s, Sig P225s, 239s, and 229s. Some I'm no doubt forgetting. Sometimes the one I've landed on is nicer than the ones I previously owned, sometimes not. The one...

    My Latest Acquisition: Astra A-70

Had a .40 A-75 that was a fine reliable little pistol. Wanted an A-70, but have never seen one for sale in person.

Well used import 92F for $325?

That said, if you have multiple nice 92s a beater is always going to be the red-headed stepchild and lose its appeal rather quickly. That might just be me. I want even the guns I’ve relegated to “beater” roles to look nice and hang on to some resale value.

Well used import 92F for $325?

455 beat me to it. In this instance “previous-generation” means “not a polystriker”, full stop. It’s an odd reason to disparage the 92.

Lee Enfield 1898 Royal Irish Constabulary carbine

That’s extremely cool. Probably has as interesting a history as a non-military rifle can have.

Just venting a little bit and man I am not a fan of Lena Miculeck right now lol…ugh

At last count there are at least 5 women at my workplace that have Sig P365’s. Rose or not, they must appeal to women.

What type of Ammo for a EDC SW EZ 380

FTX. Though, to be honest, not because I know that it’s a great man-stopper but because it functions flawlessly in my other .380’s.

How Many Extra Magazines Per Handgun?

Pretty much. Magpuls can be bought like a gas station Butterfinger. Original FN 1900 magazines, not so much. I try to have at least 3 for every semi-auto. HD and CCW pistols at least 4 or 5.

    Show Me Your Lube Shelf

Here it is. Half Mobil 1, half ATF. Works great. I’ve never had a speck of rust from corrosive ammo.

Vintage Handgun Values - up or down?

Gotta agree with trackskippy. Nice S&W and Colt revolvers seem to be as expensive as ever. I’ve lucked into a few deals in the last couple of years but it sure doesn’t look like the days of the $600-700 K-frame have passed.

Do you like the 7.5" barrel?

It looked better than fair but I didn’t ask to handle it. No, just that Smith and two nice heavy-barrel Model 10’s for $650 each.

Do you like the 7.5" barrel?

I do on single-actions but not doubles. Unless they’re pre-war. I saw a S&W 1905 .38 Special with a 7.5” barrel at the LGS today that I would have snapped up if I hadn’t been on a gun buying tear recently. $360 at East County Guns in Centralia, Mark_Mark!
