Woo Hoo! The bug has bit again. I have reloaded lots of 9mm and 45 ACP so I figgered 40 S&W would be fine to reload. I have some W231 so I'll try that.
Thanks fellers
It's been a bit over a year since I've done any reloading (wife sick and passing away) and a couple weeks ago decided to get back to it. Have had an itch for a new gun and thinking about a new cartridge, and retirement and SS checks came in the same day so I ordered a Glock 22 gen 5 from Bud's...
Yep. Normal reloading procedure is to start with the book starting load and work up if necessary, so a little difference in bullet weight presents no problem...
I shoot at an "unimproved" range. Dirt, pebbles/rocks and trash on the ground so cases have to be picked up individually. For a long time I used a "case hook" (wire with a 1 1/2" 90 degree bend attached to a broom stick. Surfing the web and discovered "grabbers". Bought a couple and they work...
I experimented with reverse loading HBWC in the mid '90s. I used mid to upper charges of W231, but not max. My results were not to good. Some shots into wet newsprint at 12 ft the skirts collapsed and bullet tumbled shallowly. A few expanded but most not evenly and penetration was very shallow...
Without a second thought, I would pull the bullets, toss the powder and reuse the primed brass. Pulling with an impact puller may be tedious, but you don't have to do all 170+ in one sitting. Do as many as you feel comfortable doing, then put the tools/cartridges away and do some more later. I...
Lee die sets come with "universal" shell holders of the appropriate caliber for the set. I've used 6 different presses and Lee shell holders have worked in them all.
It would be an easy task to polish out the die ID, but you shouldn't have to do that to a new tool. I believe I would send the die back to Hornady with a scratched case, asking for a new replacement...
I bought a primer reloading kit and "renewed" a few out of curiosity. I believe I would go with flint locks or air guns before I tried to redo primers, a lot of work with very small parts...
CQB45ACP's pic is an excellent example. Not being a jerk, but "just look at them" is good advise. I have been a machinist/mechanic most of my life and I can pick up a case, glance at it, and toss it into the appropriate bucket, but I under stand I've had decades of practice. Determine which is...
BTDT many times. No problems. Some were same 38 Special loads with Bullseye or W231. Have gone up to mid level 357 Magnum loading, no problems. I've used mostly CCI SPP and Winchester SPP.
Have you any experience with the "dreaded carbon ring"? I clean my guns after each range session which...
Good advice. SAAMI specs. for 44 Magnum rifle barrels is .431" groove diameter, handgun barrels is ,429". Don't know why. My Puma in 44 Mag. slugs out to .431". I use a Ranch Dog design 240 gr or 26 gr. RNFP sized to .432"...
For my PCCs I have always started out with, and mostly stuck with...
