I want a 44 magnum lever gun, but I'm picky:
I do not want a rifle with a bull octagonal barrel.
I do not want a rifle with a 10+ round full length mag tube.
The only lever guns I can find that meet this qualification are the The Winchester 1886 'Extra Light', and the Browning Model...
I've got three rifles left on my wish list that I'm trying to knock out one at a time... but I'm stuck.
All them are likely to be fairly limited production, so I don't want to buy them in the wrong order, and have to hassle around trolling Gunbroker and possibly paying more.
The list is...
I want to put a scope on a BLR 81, but I'm a bit confused:
Some manufacturers offer a base that supposedly fits both long and short actions, while other manufacturers offer different bases for both long and short...
Another thing that confuses me is that all of these mounts use the same hole...
I know this is a long shot, but can anyone post a pic of an Aimpoint 9000L (or even the identically sized 7000L) on an AR15?
I have it in mind for an upper I'm building, but I don't know how much space it will take up (assuming a lot) or what height of mount I will need.
I got bored today, and said to myself: "self, I bet you could make a 1911 magazine work in your S&W 4506!" ... "Don't be CRAZY self - you know those are two different guns" I replied.
Well, I happened to have a cheap chintzy "USA" brand 1911 mag handy, so I busted out the dremel and went to...
...unless they have already done it (:rolleyes:) and that even a revolver god can't help me unless he has a copy of Jerry Kuhnhausen's book handy. *
I will send it to a real smith. I'm not going to do it myself. :o
Here is whats up:
1) The gun is 'welded' tight on every chamber when put...
I'm looking at a BP pistol for hunting purposes.
I have a gun in mind, but I don't know if I want it in 45 or 50 caliber. Regardless of which caliber I get, I'm not entirely clear on what bullets it will stabilize; this is only my second BP gun, and its been a few years since my last.
The...
I was looking to build up some loads for my 44 magnum using HP38 (my general pistol powder) and light weight 165gr bullets.
Hodgdon claims the MAX load for this weight is a meager 7gr @ 13,900 CUP, producing only 1,088 fps.
I realize that CUP pressures can actually be as much as 20% higher...
I'm looking at a Kimber 84 Montana in 223 as the "general "rifle" for a new rifle battery I'm building.
While doing my research I came across the poor accuracy and light strike reports on 24 campfire, Cabelas talk, and other internet forums.
Problem is, these reports are all from 3-5 years...
I was running some numbers for .22 caliber rimfire, as well as .22 caliber center fires, and the results of the 'Greenhill' formula just don't stack up:
Even when adjusted for the specific gravity of lead bullets, it computes a value of 1-14" for a standard velocity 40 grain rimfire - 2" faster...
I ran across some hand load data, .5gr below max, that claimed 2,200fps with a 370gr from a 20" carbine barrel. That's 4K foot pounds of muzzle energy! That exceeds both modern 45-70 or a 450 marlin.
Is this true?
My apologies if this is an incorrect forum, but we have no section for general ammunition discussion it seems.
As a student of both anthropology and firearms I was delighted to find several varieties of spent rim fire casings during a dig I'm currently working for an archeological field...
...have to be anything you actually own, or be within any particular rifle class. Hunting, Tactical, Target, and Plinkers are all good. I'll start:
* Ruger M77 Hawkeye Ultralight
* 257 Roberts
* Leupold 2.5x20 Ultralight (fixed power FXII)
* 7lbs 2oz
Why? Very well balanced caliber...
I'm researching the performance of various calibers in short barrels for use in a dual application.
Since this gun will pull double duty as short to medium range varmint gun, as well as a brush gun, I'm focusing on high muzzle velocity and flat trajectories rather than muzzle energy.
My...
I'm researching semi-auto PPS-43's, and getting a lot of mixed signals in the process. I'm finding a lot of anecdotal accounts, and little actual experience. it seems that 50%of people are overly-enthusiastic about them, while the other 50%, mostly collectors, say what un-reliable trash they...
Can someone bust out their calipers and take some measurements for me?
I need to know the actual diameter specs for large pistol and large rifle primers.
I know what Rifle I want, but I'm stuck between 300 Win Mag and 300 WSM.
I would just go with the 300 Win, and forget the WSM even existed... if the WSM weren't $200 cheaper for the exact same gun.
The savings on the gun itself will be gone by the time I purchase 5 boxes of ammo... but...
I hear this kind of statement a lot: "So and so makes guns to a price point" of "the Walmart versions are of lower quality".
It seems idiotic to me that a company who puts out good products one day would screw up their machining and tell their workers to cut corners just because they are...
I'm wondering what your all getting for brass life.
This is the load I've been using:
* 230gr LRN
* 5.7gr - HP38
* Winchester large pistol primer
* 1.258" Over All Length
* .891" Case Length
This load exceeds Hodgedons "Maximum" load by 8%... And not only does this load show no...
