Hey milemaker13,
I certainly agree that a larger caliber makes good (not necessarily better sense) for self defense ( or as some refer to it as “Social Use”), but five (well placed) 22 Magnum rounds could, at the very least, give a bad guy pause! My favored rounds are five 44 Specials from my...
Well...I was a uniformed officer then a detective for a total of 36 years in a large metropolitan area..our Capital city. So I didn’t just get my information viewing bodies at the morgue or out of a hat! I’ve been stabeed twice and shot once..so have a tiny bit of real world self defense...
Yeah..I’m with you on carrying a weapon that will make a bigger hole..hence my 44 Specials, my 45 Colts and my 45 acp Colt 1911s! And it really wasn’t anything said here lately. But..I have a bunch of mouseguns, the Beretta, 4..soon to be 5 NAA Revolvers, and a Sig P238, which, while a 380...
Sorry Old Dog..just trying to use..what I feel is common sense. Didn’t mean to piss anyone off..well...maybe I did! But I just feel there’s too much emphasis on caliber choice and effectiveness! I’ll go quietly now!
Unkei
I like the 25 acp as in the Beretta 950 BS, any of the NAA minis in 22 mag, the 3032 Beretta Tomcat....etc.
Are these the optimum SD cartridges? Hell No! But they will do the job! I really like the Tomcat 3032, and any of the NAA Revolvers will do the trick! Would a larger caliber be a better...
OK...I’ve had it!
Everywhere you look on the God, (Or Gore Given Internet!), mouse gun calibers, in particular the 25 acp...is talked about as just pissin a perp off if you shoot him with it! OMG...enough! I was an LEO in a large metropolitan area for 36 years...part of that time as a detective...
By the way..this is another of my Bonds. This one is in 44 Special. I've been a fan of that cartridge ever since I started reading about Elmer Keith. My next purchase will be a Charter Arms Bulldog in 44 Special.
Cheers,
Unkei
Hey Tubby1,
Well...I received an email notification, but could be because I have been a long time customer with several prior purchases. Whether it was advertised publicly, I don't really know. But for the basic price of the gun in 45/410, they threw in an extra barrel of my choice, a holster...
Spats..it did just that to me too. First I said Oh s**t, then Oh crap..and after just a second...Thank God! No ND, no huge explosion, no dead neighbors and no dead me! It tends to instill one with renewed caution in all things!
The Walther suffered no injuries either..tough pistol!
Cheers,
Unkei
Hey Spats,
No running or jumping here either, though I did have a brand new Walther PPK/S fall out of a vertical suede shoulder holster and hit concrete as I bent over to empty fuel out of a small portable generator. No harm..no foul!
Cheers,
Unkei
Hi all,
I have a Colt Combat Commander and a Colt New Agent SA 45 acp.
I always carry condition 1 and use either a thumb snap belt holster, a Galco Miami Classic, or my DeSantis Mini Scabbard. I kind of like the DeSantis Mini Scabbard, but of course there is no thumb snap to put leather between...
Hi Stubert,
Yep, I've fired it with the 45/410 barrel but not the 357/38 yet. The weight of the gun along with the hand filling grips, ( I use the Genuine Stag Extended Grips) keep the felt recoil quite manageable even shooting 45 Colt Hollowpoints or Hornaday Crtical Defense loads,
(the ones...
Here's a photo of my newest Single Action, a Bond Arms Pikes Peak Special. Couldn't pass up the deal! For about $549 I got the 45/410 version, with a free 357/38 barrel, and a pocket holster. Bond Arms also paid the transfer fee, all taxes and the shipping.
Cheers,
Unkei
Know the feeling! I'm dense All the time! The trigger gaurd is removeable. As for the trigger, it's an easy pull. You just have to remember that the pull is back and down, as that is the way these are designed. Those that complain about the trigger pull, are either unaware of this or resting the...
Thanks chicharrones!
Got a bunch more too! Had to change photos of the Bond Arms in my original post. First one was an internet photo. The revised post shows my actual firearm. Sorry about that!
Cheers,
Unkei
No.. no question really! Just like posting my photos and throwing things out there to see who wants to comment! And all replies are welcomed! After all..everyone has an opinion and everyone approaches things from their own experiences and viewpoint, and thats the way it should be!
Cheers,
Unkei
Back in 2014, I posted about carrying a Doc Holliday Special in 45 Colt..a 3 1/2 in barrel for SD. Got a Lot of replies..some in favor..some derisive. Just want everyone to know that I've got plenty of Semi Autos in large caliber from 380 to 45 acp for faster reloads and such! Have 26 handguns...
Hey all,
Thanks for all the replies! To heyjoe and bannockburn...you'll like the barrel in 44 Special and 45 Colt! For farm23...I don't own a chronograph..so can't speak to velocity, but think the short barrel..even with the extra rifling, willl limit any improvement to velocity, ( though that's...
