50 year old Ruger M77 chambered in .257 Roberts. I bought it my senior year of high school in 1972 at a Gibsons Discount for about $110 brand new, I was working on a drilling rig for a friend in my spare time making $3.25 an hour as a 17 year old.
I have the Bassett that I got right after Mr. Bassett passed away, his daughter Romey (sp) sold me and her and her uncle showed me how to mount it, great mount that I can co-witness with. I dont use a cheek riser, I hate the way it makes the rifle look, I can remove the Bassett mount easily when...
on something like a .22, any cheapo like a Barska will work. You might consider the temps too cause the cheapos fog up quick. really with a .22 never have understood the need for a scope and I am 70.
I am looking at a low priced scope for hog hunting at night, I am using green lights now. The two I am considering are the ATN and Sightmark Wraith models, both under $1,000. I dont have ultra deep pockets and I realize this price range isn't near the best. Any input?
I had two no. 3s. one in .223 the other in .22 Hornet. Even with good Leupold scopes I couldn't get any decent groupings. I wish I still had them for my collection but they werent shooters.
I'm too old for all these new calibers. I'll stick with a few, mainly the .308, .257 Roberts, 7mm-08, .22-250 and the basic 6.5 x 55 Swede. that's all I need.

I have taken big hogs with everything from a .17hmr to 30-06 for longer ranges, for up close my favorite is a Ruger M77/44. .44 mag bolt action carbine and I have lots of hogs on my place....overrun with them. whatever I throw in my pickup when I go check cows.
I have several .308s. one of my favoites still is an old Remington 788 I bought in 1972 for about $100 brand new from Gibsons, Still one of my go to .308s. Got a Weatherby on the high end, lots of calibers and rifles in between but the old ugly blonde stock 788 goes with me often.
Lately the 6.5 has spunoff lots of new rounds...that's OK by me but I'm old school and the 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser does all I need in Texas. I got lots of hunting rifles from .17hmr to 30-06 but this old standard is enough for me....current new one is a Tikka T3 Lite. Smooth action, beautiful...
