Not to doubt Bill Wilson because he is certainly successful at building and selling quality pistols and rifles. But why did he need to invent a new cartridge for the AR? Aren't there enough AR varients to pick. Most will probably fade into obscurity in the next decade.
The new 7.62x40 has...
What are my options is I want to utilize cheap, inexpensive Russian imported 7.62x39 centerfire ammo for plinking/target shooting that is not an AK or SKS?
Not that I think anything is wrong with an AK or SKS, the ergonomics (short stock), terrible sights leave much to be desired. I'm...
I was wondering for a given length and caliber, say a 20 inch .308 Winchester rifle, would a heavy thick contour barrel be inherently more accurate than a thinner contour barrel?
I know a heavier barrel takes longer to heat up and cool down. Thus it more resistent to change from prolong...
I'm contemplating a GSG-5 22 LR replica of the classic MP5 for a plinker. Does anyone have any experience with this gun? Does it seem as reliable as a standard 22 LR semi-auto such as the Ruger 10/22 or Marlin?
The manufacturer is a German company which hasn't been importing firearms into...
22LR is a good way to get inexpensive practice and introduce kids to the AR platform.
What are the pros and cons of using a drop in 22LR conversion kit vs a 22LR upper vs a 22LR AR-style gun?
I think the 22LR Upper would be the most expensive and most like an 5.56 AR.
The 22 LR...
I have fired several hundreds of rounds in my AR rifle (steel non-chromed barrel) used for hunting/plinking without any appreciable change in accuracy. I usually clean after 100 rounds or so with Hoppes 9, Breakfree CLP, or Hoppes Elite (whatever I have on hand).
When should I be concerned...
What is the best, inexpensive surplus C+R eligible military 8M mauser on the market these days for plinking purposes (not collecting)? Pre and Post-WWII rifles would be acceptable...No need to pay big money for swastika stamps in a gun that's just a shooter.
The rifle was never used in any major war or military action that I know. The Swiss have not fought any wars for hundreds of years.
Like a swiss watch it is probably well made and shoots very accurately compared to other rifles of its era. It is difficult to add a scope. The ammo is not...
Most police departments in the US began to transition from the traditional double action revolver to the semiauto pistol in the late 1980s and early 1990s. This event coincided with the US military adoption of the Beretta M9 in 1985.
The advantages of a semiauto pistol over a revolver has...
Century Arms makes a 100% USA made AK type rifle Centurion 39 sporter in 7.62X 39 complete with quad rails and a one inch longer stock (orginal AK build for short guys in heavy wool coats suitable for the Russian winter).
Does anyone have any experience with this gun or any alternatives...
What are the pros and cons for the different 10 MM bullets for hogs? I am planning on using a 10 MM pistol as a rifle backup to finish off wounded hogs in the brush or short range weapon (less than 50 yards).
Is there a reason to choose hardcast bullets (no expansion, maximum penetration)...
I was wondering what are the advantages and disadvantages of a a used Smith and Wesson K-Frame revolver a.k.a. Model 19/66 for plinking/range use over a dedicated L frame revolver like the model 586/686?
I like the looks of the the half-lugged Model 66 over the full lugged 686. Since this...
Why do heavier bullets for a given Caliber have more perceived recoil?
For example, 40 S&W commonly comes in 155, 165, and 180 grain loadings. The 180 grain loads "supposably" have more perceived recoil given equal muzzle energy between all three loads.
Is this difference in perceived...
I understand the the hollow point of of a BTHP (Boat tail Hollow point) bullet is designed for accuracy and not rapid expansion as in a traditional hunting bullet. How does the hollow point contribute to accuracy?
I know the boat tail part helps streamline the bullet as it cuts through the...
Why do semiautomatic .308 based rifles (M1A, FAL, AR-10) cost 1.5-2 times that of AR-15 style rifles? I can find bare bones AR-15 rifles for less than $1000 but I don't see any semi .308 for less than $1500-2000.
Probably most AR-15 style rifles are chambered for .223/5.56 which is marginal...
Maybe these are just apples and oranges...
I am looking for for a 44 magnum to add to my hunting armory. I want a gun to carry in the woods to present whenever targets of opportunity present themselves, i.e. hogs, deer, armadillos...
There are no dangerous 4 legged critters in East...
