My first magnum was a 4" Nickel 57 that I bought back around 1980 . Later I bought a blue 58 and then a nickel one . Then a 6" 657 . My interests changed in the 90's and I sold them all . Bad move and regretful .
Finally , many years later , I'm back . Picked this up yesterday . Appears new and...
Might be an alloy issue . My typical outing would entail 500-600 rds fired in maybe an hour and a half . 3-5 rd bursts , some single fire at the water jugs at 50 yds and some 30rd magazine dumps . Very little build up for me .
I fired thousands of hand loaded cast lead from 185-230gr out of my Savage M1 . RN and SWC . Loaded them to standard velocities and experienced great function whether firing semi or full auto .
It's been a lot of years , but I believe the L frame was recalled for this exact problem . The guns would lock up with some 357 loads . S&W installs a shorter FP and the problem is solved .
S&W will fix it for NC :)
Here's an earlier discussion . Probably many others as well ...
If you're using it only for range/target that sounds like a good plan . At that time though , S&W had tens of thousands of L frames in LE holsters . Made sense to get them modified .
See my post #7 above .
The malfuntion mity2 describes is exactly the reason they were recalled . The hammer nose (firing pin) is too long and can stick into the primer when firing magnum loads . With the hammer stuck forward , the cylinder will not rotate .
S&W continues to handle the...
Welcome to the forum .
Nice guns
I don't believe the "Y" is part of the sn . It's more likely an inspector mark .
Here's a factory nickel 38 made in 1926 .
Just an observation based on handling/firing hundreds of Sig pistols . The P6 seems to have a much heavier pull . If you like it , that's what counts .
I've handled dozens of P6's . All have imo an excessively heavy DA trigger pull . Do you P6 owners just "deal with it" or are you installing spring kits ?
When fired , the entire top end recoils rearward cocking the hammer and advancing the cylinder readying it for the next shot .
It's a very cool gun , but definately a solution to a nonexistant problem ;)
