    Ruger finally listened - Mini-14 in 300BLK

I would agree with that. Don't raise the barrier to adoption.

    Ruger finally listened - Mini-14 in 300BLK

There are many people out there who like the feel and function of the Mini. I love my Mini-30 and shoot it far more than my AK or SKS. For those who want the ergonomics of the Mini but don't care for the AR style, offering a 300BLK chambering makes sense to me. More choice is not a bad thing...

    Need complement to Browning Auto-5

I can't seem to find a good Belgium one (with engraving) similar to mine for less than $1000. Since it's for my son, the budget is a bit lower. I will likely grab another A5 for myself later, but I will need to budget more for it.

Who has a Sig P226? Get in here

Like many on this thread, I own both Sigs and Glocks, and I won't part with either. They're excellent pistols all around. (In the spirit of full disclosure, I don't own a 226, but I'm sure it's typical of Sig's build quality.) For everyday carry, I did switch from my Sig 238 to a Glock 42 and...

Am I a wuss? AK kicks too hard. (Vepr 7.62x39)

Jeff -- I would make whatever adjustments you feel would help, but I wouldn't sweat it past that. Felt recoil is a weird thing and varies widely from person to person. I don't have any issue with my AK or SKS recoil, but I know others who do (and these guys are burly shooters who like shooting...

    Semi-auto vs Pump: Home Defense.

Very interesting thread. Lots of good arguments for/against both pump and semi. For me, my go-to shotgun is my Benelli Nova Pump. I don't consider a pump to be advantageous over semi, but I do like the size of the shotgun for tight spaces. It's compact, points well, and was "relatively"...

    Need complement to Browning Auto-5

As luck would have it, I found a Beretta A300 for sale at the Field and Stream up the road. I'm going to check it out tomorrow. I appreciate all of the solid recommendations -- Beretta A300/390/391, Rem 11-86, Moss, Browning BPS/Gold. Awesome, guys...thanks! :)

    Need complement to Browning Auto-5

Okay, thanks! I buy used guns all of the time, so no problem there. I'll look at what Cabelas and Bass are offering right now. Semis are preferred, but not a must. Fixed breech shooting with heavy loads gets tiring fast. :)

    Need complement to Browning Auto-5

My oldest son wants to shoot sporting clays and occasionally turkey hunt, for which our Browning Auto-5 with rotating choke has been a great choice in the past. We only have one, though, so for both of us to shoot, I would like to get a complement to the A5 to pair with. I have a Benelli...

    Concealing a bigger pistol?

I stopped carrying larger pistols altogether for concealed purposes. I just don't like the weight. In winter, it's easier to carry because you have more options and the thicker clothes help distribute the weight, but in warmer months, forget it. I actually went from my Sig P238 to a Glock 42...

S&W or Ruger 38 or 357 for CC?

I stress this to all of my CCW students: DON'T shoot magnum loads in an airweight revolver. Sure, the guns are designed to handle it (if duly rated), but it's an unpleasant experience at best. I have students fire various firearms (semi-auto, revolvers) in the fam fire portion to see for...

Where did you learn your cleaning methods?

Trial and error over the years. I think that cleaning is a very personal thing; some go about it with religious fervor and others have a "meh" attitude. It also depends on the firearm in question. My SKS and AK get a quick once-over while my Ruger MkIII gets a good scrubbing so that it feeds...

    Contra-AR -- Weird?

I am so happy to hear that someone else finds the buffer spring sound as annoying as I do. :) "Ba-doing, ba-doing, ba-doing"...drives me <deleted>.

    Contra-AR -- Weird?

You know, this summed it up for me quite well. I don't own a 1911, either, but I do have a PPS-43C (technically classified by BATFE as a pistol). I took my SKS apart and made it a Franken-KS with various furniture pieces and add-ons. Common firearms are simply not interesting to me. (In the...

    Contra-AR -- Weird?

Yep, I have one of those. And an SKS. :) Thanks for all of the input, folks. Don't worry -- people aren't beating me up for my lunch money or picking me last for dodgeball because I don't have an AR. ;) Because the rifle is so ubiquitous, I started to wonder if I was missing something. As...

    Contra-AR -- Weird?

I own several rifles of various calibers, but I have resisted buying an AR. I've shot them many times throughout my military and civilian experiences, but I don't own one for personal use. It's an excellent rifle (not debating the piston vs. DI here), but they're so commonplace that I can't...

    Ruger GSR Purchased

Great purchase! I don't own one, but I've heard so many good things about the GSR. All my Rugers shoot very well, so you should have lots of enjoyment sending lead downrange with that GSR. Keep us posted! :)

The potential of a Henry Big Boy as a HD rifle

I have a Henry 45-70 that I bought for my son and would have no reservations using any Henry lever gun for HD. Tube loading? Pfffft, no problem. If you're in a jam and shot everything in the tube, you can throw 'em in the ejection port.

Birthday present -- Henry 45-70 with Leupold

Here is a photo of the final kit -- sling, butt cuff, and scope mounted. My son's birthday was yesterday, so he didn't see the final gift until then. He was VERY excited and will be looking forward to putting it through its paces when he gets home from college this summer. :)

Why are bullpup rifles so expensive?

I'm not sure I would classify the F/FS2000 as complex (the trigger group might be, though) since the field stripping is simple and design is very modular. I happen to like bullpups very much and am jonesing for a Tavor this year. As to the question of cost, it simply has to do with the...
