Need help identifying Enfield No4 MK1

OK, the macro setting idea worked. Here are pictures of the markings on the gun. I would appreciate it greatly if someone could tell me the manufacturer and any other information about this gun. Thanks! Pic 1 Serial number and date of manufacture (appears to have "peened" -- why would...

Need help identifying Enfield No4 MK1

I tried taking pictures but I can't get my camera to focus on small objects like the serial numbers. Right now it's completely disassembled for cleaning. I'll post some pics when I get it put back together.

Need help identifying Enfield No4 MK1

Hello everyone, I am the proud new owner of a No.4 MK1 and am pretty much cluless about identifying anything about it. I wasn't planning to buy one, but for $115 I couldn't walk away without it. Anyhow, the left side of the receiver is marked No.4 MK1 and there is a small BNP on top of the...

260 Rem and RL17 load questions

I'm 0.020" off the lands which seems to work well with the H4350 and H4831sc. Once I use up the 140gr SMK's I'll probably use only 142gr SMK's because I can drive them a little harder and they seem to be more accurate at 600-800 yards. I may look into RL19 or RL22, but I don't think the RL17...

260 Rem and RL17 load questions

I've been trying to develop some loads for my 260 Rem in a Savage model 11 long range hunter 24" barrel with 1:8 twist using 140gr and 142 gr SMK's and WLR primers. Using near maximum published charges I've found that H4350 is more accurate then H4831sc with similar velocities and no pressure...

I need help identifying a JGA Karabiner

I recently bought a 22 single shot rifle. It's a JGA Karabiner and I need help identifying the model, age, and anything else I can learn about the rifle. It is missing the front sight which I will try to replace if anyone can tell me what is correct and suggest where I may be able to find any...

    Poor Gun safety at LGS.

I once went to a garage sale because there were a couple of guns advertised. As I approached the corner where the guns were on display, a kid about 12 years old sat down a Browning sweet 16 and walked away. I picked it up and, seeing the action closed, I pulled the bolt back to check it. Out...

How do you break in your barrel?

I'm glad to see all the responses and get a lot of good, thought provoking discussion. It's exactly why I asked the question. I mostly shoot from the bench nowadays and my interests are more toward sub-moa accuracy and shooting at 600 yards than toward deer hunting. 35 years ago I never...

How do you break in your barrel?

Seems like I hear about a lot of different theories and methods regarding barrel break-in. What are your thoughts about barrel break-in? Is it really necessary? How do you do it?

Anybody have pet load for 260 Rem?

Last weekend I received my Savage model 11 long range hunter in .260 Rem and need to find a good load. It has a 26" barrel with 1:8 twist. I already have some 140gr SMK's so I will probably start with those, but I'm not limiting myself to them while developing loads. I'm also using new Rem...

Did I trim brass too short?

I was trimming brass this weekend on my new hornady case prep center and accidentally trimmed my 300 win mag brass to "2.600 -- all 500 of them -- instead of the "2.610 trim-to length. I didn't notice until the very end when my buddy stopped by and was checking out the machine. The brass...

shotgun reloading...What is a good deal?

I use a MEC Grabber and a MEC 9000G. Both are good loaders and MEC has good customer support and parts are available. Shotshell reloading is much easier than metallic reloading. It should be a snap for you. Go online and check out a shotshell cost calculator. With the current cost of...

    Tolerance question

For rifle, I start at the recommended OAL. I then "paint" the bullet with a black sharpie pen and lenghten each cartridge until I see shiny spots breaking through the black coating where the bullet is engaging the lands. I then seat the bullet .003 deeper. Why .003? Because that is usually...

Need info on 95 gr SMK for .243

I'm thinking about reloading some 95 gr SMK's for my son's Remington 700 in .243 winchester with 1:10 twist on a 22" barrel. We are able to shoot anywhere from 100 yards to 725 yards and I would like to see how well his gun will shoot at longer distances. Has anyone shot these through a 1:10...

    1903a3 is bulging brass

I've tried RCBS case lube and Hornady One-Shot. I had better luck with the RCBS. I appreciate the response that this may be normal with the 1903a3 chamber. My main concern is that the gun is safe for me and my son to shoot. The barrel is a Remington 2 groove dated 12-43, receiver serial...

    1903a3 is bulging brass

I have a Remington 1903a3 (sporterized stock)that is bulging the brass about 1/2" from the base. The bulge is a small, almost indistinct ring all the around the case. It is more easily felt than seen but it makes re-sizing extremely difficult. I noticed this recently while reloading for the...
