Several ways to check diameter. V-mics, Gage pins, v-block and indicator and finally, comparator. Some versions will work better than others dependent on barrel twist.
You might have banana cases, i.e. the cases are bent. Take some that fit on the snug side and look at the case mouth re. the gage. If you see a gap that varies in size, you have banana syndrome.
The fluke group was 3", 5 shots at 100 yards. With jacketed reloads, ordinarily I can expect about 5" groups. And 8-9" groups with lead. This is normal? If this is common, I won't lose any sleep over it. Of course my plan for 1000 yards with lead bullets is now on the back burner. I guess I've...
I once got 40 shots off with 20 hits on two pices of typing paper centered on a B-27 silhouette. All but three hit the silhouette. Unfortunately, this was at 200 yards, from a bench. It was a misguided effort to beat, read that as come close to Sgt. Snoxall's record. At the time , I was under...
I bought the bullets from Missouri Bullet Co. They're 18 Brinell and .309" diameter and plain base. They shot fine in my buddy's carbine. But all three of mine shoot patterns. The jacketed bullets shoot just fine. Is it possible that all three have worn barrels?
What I don't understand about the lead loads is that 3 for 3 suck with them. And the same loads are fairly accurate in my buddy's gun. There are too many people out there that are loading lead bullets successfully for me to discount it. Did I just happen to have a bad bunch of coincidences? Is...
MichaelK- that was one of the things I thought about. My concern was drill walk. That and the possibility of breaking a tap. Did you use a set screw which bore onto the receiver versus into the receiver? As to the lead. No problems except inaccuracy. And I have tried 296 and AA#9. They weren't...
I will not spend money on something that could probably be fixed with a tooth pick or a dose of Loc-Tite or or..... I suppose there must be someone, somewhere who has stated "Beware the man who reloads one cartridge". I, personally would not subscribe to that theory.
Well I think I might have a solution to the peep sliding in the ramp. First, I'm going to give them a severe talking to. There might be an occasional foul word. If that doesn't work, at least on the Universal, I'll attempt to jam someting in there.
As to not liking lead, I'm not experiencing...
I have three carbines, all with the adjustable sights. On two of them, the rear sight moves due to recoil, which raises havoc with my plan to zero at 100 yards. Also, none of them like lead bullets, typically throwing 8" + groups at 100. All three like reloads with the Remington soft points...
Is it possible that someone trimmed it to make 9MM Makarov. Check the OAL. My first sizing die in 9X19 refused to size about 50% of the brass I had. 9MM brass varies quite a bit.
I keep hearing about lubing pistol cases in carbide dies but have never done so. I don't even lube every .223 case. I run about ten lubed cases then try one without. Then alternate. And no, I've never stuck a case. 30 Carbine is about every third or fourth. I never will understand why a tapered...
You're almost there. I don't see a shellholder, but that might be mounted in the press. Scale + manual/manuals are imperative. With those 3 or 4 things, you are good to go for .223. Of course you'd still need primers, bullets and brass. After you have those, to load .308 you'd need another...
