Signs went up yesterday in Folly Lick Stream Valley Park in my neighborhood near Herndon, Virginia. Just like that, I'm a potential law breaker if I take a walk in the park where, 4 years ago, MS13 murdered someone with a machete. No exception for CCP. Photo attached.
After some great discussion in the black powder forum, it was suggested I post here. This is a family heirloom passed down to me. Bore measures .35 with my calipers. The mold came with. What can you tell us about it? Thanks![/IMG]
This has been in my family for well over a hundred years. It appears that it used to be a flint lock that was converted to percussion. The set and trigger work as intended. The barrel ( iron hexagonal) is clear and my micrometer measures .35. What size patched ball would that translate to?
I had the gun appraised at a LGS and they said .58 Berdan. I have read about the .58 Roberts so I am not completely sure. I'll take some measurements and learn how to do a casting before I make the expensive purchase of brass from Rocky Mountain or RCC.
Yeah, as I do more research, the more I realize what I don't know. I might have to spring for some brass from RCC or Rocky Mountain. Thanks for the feedback.
The subject line says it all. I have a .58 Remington Rolling Block musket conversion in .58 berdan.
I also have 9 .577 brass cases that I can trim to the 1.66 berdan case length. How do I taper (straight) the brass. Is it possible without a major investment in tools? I want to shoot a .58 ball...
Thanks. The holster is a Triple K for 51/4" barrel from Cabelas . I really like the short length. I haven't tried to adjust the sights. I'll work on my skill instead. The spare cylinder is on my shopping list. Cheers!
