    Milsurp collectors

My favorite are the accurate ones - the Finnish mosins, K31's, and M1917's. If I loosen the accuracy criteria a bit, the Garand, SVT 40, and the FN49 are a hoot to shoot!

    Romanian M69 . Rifle

I have two - I would say they are worth about $150 each based on what I have seen lately.

    Any Schmidt Ruben fans here?

When I purchase a rifle, I take it out to my 100 yard range and test fire a 3 round group. Out of all my rifles, my 2nd K31 is the only only one which hit dead center of the bullseye with a 3/4 inch group using GP11. My 1st K31 did the same group size on the initial firing but was off the...

hi point model 95 carbine thread

Most of my target shooting with my 995 carbine is betwen 75 and 100 yards. It is reasonably accurate (around 4-5 MOA) with the red dot scope I have on it. I have never had an extraction or chambering problem with the rifle. I wish the magazine had a larger capacity.

    7.62x51 Ammo

If you have ever examined a steel case after firing and compared it with an unfired case, you would know the claim that there is no expansion is false. I wish people would quit spouting internet falacies and state the facts. Steel does not conform to the chamber as well as brass does but does...

    OC gathering outside Philly

Probably the safest restaurant in the Philly area. Not much chance of a robbery there! Wish my daughter would move from that crime infested city.

Top 5 milsup bolt-action rifles to own?

Top 5 milsurp bolt actions (in order of my humble opinion of classiness) 1) Mauser - the epitome of bolt actions 2) Enfield #4 Mk1 - a rifle built for battle 3) Model 1917 - what the Springfield 1903 should have been with sights and robustness. 4) Finnish M39 - The best of the most...

Is it me or are the Nagants a HOT ticket these day?

The Finnish mosins are very much as good as any American made surplus bolt action rifle. I have had 6 M39's and every one of them 1.5 MOA or better with surplus ammo.

    Gun show, decline in quality?

I enjoy going to shows in Kansas (and of course the big show in Tulsa, OK). I went to the Abilene show last weekend and bought Lake City .223 for 20 cents per round. Entry to the show was $3. I have found deals at just about every show. Keep an eye on the walkins and be patient. I agree...

Bay of Pigs Invasion: Anyone Know What Weapon the US Sponsored CubanTroops Used?

I have a LIFE magazine from right after the invasion. It shows soldiers training for the invasion with Johnson rifles.

    Gun Show Reflection

At the last two shows I went to this fall (Tulsa and Wichita) I got used AR15 magazines at $3 each, G3 magazines at $1.50 each, and .223 Wolf ammo at $179 per thousand. I saw plenty of under $100 mosins and 7.63x54 ammo for them at $75 per 440 rounds. Maybe its just location.

    Gun Show Prices are absurd!!!

I thought the $3 AR-15 mags, the $2 HK91 mags, and the $179 for 1000 rounds of Russian .223 ammo at the Tulsa show was a pretty good deal. Firearm prices were all over the place. The promoters definitely need to have wider isles if we are going to experience more people in electric carts.

    Remington 552 Speedmaster.

Nice rifle. I have to strip mine down after about 1000 rounds and give it a good cleaning otherwise it will have extraction problems. That is probably due more to dirty .22s than it is to any failure of the rifle. A very accurate rifle.

My new Polish M44 - PICS

My 1st milsurp as a collector was an unissued Polish M44. It is pretty accurate rifle for a carbine (about 2-3 MOA). About 6 years ago, a guy was selling a crate of them for $50 each - they were rough but still was a great deal. Wish I had bought them all. I think the Poles probably spent...

Mausers: Turk mod. 38 vs Czech 98/22

I have had 4 M98/22's and all were very accurate (around 1 MOA). My single M38 Turk is a 3-4 MOA rifle.

Most accurate out of the box battle rifle?

It would have to be either a Finnish M39, Swiss K31, Swedish M96, or a Czech M98/22 (that's 4 different calibres). I have had multiples of all these rifles and all were extremely accurate.

    Mosin Nagant Recoil?

KSCCHTrainer pretty much summed it up. The mosin M44 carbine and the M91/30 all weigh about the same. The recoil in both is essentially the same. The M38 and M91/59's do not have a bayonet and thus their slightly lighter weight would have a little more recoil. What is different is the muzzle...

    Best non German mauser...

I have been collecting Mausers for quite a few years. The most accurate Mausers I own are the Czech M98/22's. They are quite long but the action is typical of the Czech rifles - very smooth with a great trigger. I have had 4 of them and all were 1.5 MOA or better. Typically, my Mausers are...

    SVT-40 or Mosin M39?

Either rifle would work for hunting. However, you do not want to shoot heavy bullets out of the SVT 40. The common softpoint Russian hunting ammo is 203 grain and is too heavy for the SVT 40. The M39 would be my choice because of its accuracy and it can handle any ammo you put into it. The...

    Milsurp Rifle for Hunting/SHTF?

The mauser is a nice rifle. Generally, a K98k is a 2-4 MOA rifle. If you want accuracy, a Finnish M39 (mosin) is a 1.5 MOA or better rifle. You should be able to get a M39 for under $300 - you would be lucky to find a K98k for under that. In addition, ammo for the mosin is much more...
