    Why are ranges rather expensive?

:what: Man, those back east prices are making ammo look cheap! I like shooting at the Butterfield range in Las Cruces when I'm down there. Lots of space, no fees, no certifications, no range officers demonstrating their importance in the world :D

Do "Sunk Costs" keep you from selling certain guns?

Why worry about it? You're pursuing a hobby, not running a gunshop :D

    Tucson, AZ?

A guy I went to college with is a ranger (or whatever) at Organ Pipe. I haven't stayed in touch, but another friend has. I'll ask about some first hand info if you like. With the change in Federal carry rules for NM's last year, you should be able to carry at Organ Pipe, though I'm not sure...

    Tucson, AZ?

I think it is, though it's probably changed companies a bunch of times since I worked there in 1989. Came back from summer work too late to enroll in the U that fall, so I did whatever came up, stage hand was one thing that came up.... man the pay was awful! I don't notice or hear about any...

How can a cleaning rod damage the crown if it isn't steel?

Milsurps were generally not babied they way rifles are in the peacetime civilian world. Corrosive primers, continual exposure to the elements, lack of cleaning, many thousands of rounds fired all contribute to bore wear. Wear is pronounced at the muzzle end because that's where the chemistry...

Odd experience with gunsmith today... or am I being a crybaby ?

Isn't it obvious, MIL-DOT? You're supposed to be so grateful that the smith will even deign to look at your gun that you just pay the man and don't waste his valuable time with questions! Shops like this just rub me the wrong way, customer service is far more important than the owner...

    K31 safety question

The only thing like that I've heard of is the little lug that rotates the bolt sleeve when the operating rod is pushed or pulled had a tendency to crack and break off on certain WWII vintage rifles. Swissrifles.com has a good thread on it, and the general consensus is that the Swiss armorers...

    winchester pre 1864 & post 1864?

Perhaps you better clarify your question, I get that you're asking about barrels and receivers of different ages, but nothing else makes any sense.

    I don't own any of those :D:D:D Closest I have is a nice S&W K22 and a 1959 Winchester 94....

Strange question at the VA Hospital.

At a guess, I'd say not.... probably some thing like "nun-ya-bidness", as in what one can say to the doctor who asks. There's usually a nice big grey area between alert attention to gun grabbing and paranoid hysteria. I think the fuss about these sorts of questions fall into the hysteria end...

Finding actual sale prices on "GB".

I sort completed auctions by highest number of bids. Click on the # of bids heading in the list, should sort lowest first, then click again and it will be highest first. That weeds out all those noise auctions where they're selling new stuff at storefront retail and no one ever bids.:D

methinks all them outastaters up in phoenix brought some of their cool aid :neener::D:D:D:D Beware of silly intrastate rivalries J_McLeod, they bring out the worst! :D Local politicians in Tucson are among the dumbest I've ever seen... Remember that guy who Barbara Walters interviewed on a...

    Tucson, AZ?

Last time I was there I went into the Armory, ok small shop, all new inventory at almost internet prices. I'll be a little surprised if they last at that rate, got to sell tons of ammo and accessories if you're not making overhead on the guns. Murphy's is about the best store since Jensens...

    Gun-shop etiquette

No, there is no basis for comparison so why go through the hassle. I sure wouldn't want to own a gun shop these days, got to be a rough road competing with internet sales and the big boxes... 'course, most kinds of stores are in the same boat. I figure if I want to "shop" I should pay the...

    Arizona gun laws for Universities

Arizona Revised Statutes are available on line, no need to go to a courthouse. Here's the applicable section for constitutional carry: http://www.azleg.state.az.us/ars/13/03102.htm The constitutional carry bill removed restrictive language from Subsection A of this section of ARS. It looks...

    Arizona gun laws for Universities

Here are the laws as I understand them... I am not a legal expert of any kind. There is a law on the books (look up Arizona Revised Statutes, Criminal Code) that allows the storage of unloaded legal weapons out of sight in a locked vehicle in K-12 parking lots. I've been told by one of the U...

Why hasn't the market for a good disposable gun been filled?

Because outside of the criminal world, there is simply no demand for throw away weapons. The majority of the US gun market is in non-professional shooters who acquire far more weapons than they need on a day to day basis - and I do not intend that to sound negative, I have 20 or so rifles and...

    Screwed up order with Samcoglobal.com

Yeah, I've never picked up from a wholesale distributor either, but I figure it'd be worth asking about their licensing and whether they're able and willing to do the transfer. Bringing a box of donuts or something might not be a bad idea... Man, if I lived within a 10 min drive of Samco or...

    Screwed up order with Samcoglobal.com

If you're in the same state, why not call up Samco and ask if they can do the transfer to you? If not, I call them up and explain the mistake to avoid confusion when they get your ffl's license.
