    Interesting case failure

I've had a couple of cases split in the last few years but I've never had one fail like this. Must have been a weak spot in the case. It's a Speer .38 Special that has been reloaded 3 or 4 times. I like how it looks like a little bow tie.

44 Magnum, At what point do you decide that a load just isn't going to work?

At what point do you decide that a load combination just isn't going to work? I've just started reloading .44 magnum. I like big boom and plenty of recoil. Loading light loads in .44 Magnum doesn't make sense to me so I want maximum (but safe) loads. I shoot lots of .357 Magnum using 300MP, I...

So brass used to come in boxes like ammo?

I went to an estate sale and picked up this .44 Magnum brass. Looking at the price sticker of $4.81 I would assume they must be pretty old. Anyone know when this might have been made? Oh and I paid 16 bucks for all three. Can't beat that!

    Had my first crimp jump

I have been working on a .38 Special load, 4.7 grains of American Select and an X-treme 125 plated bullet, crimped with a taper crimp die. These work great from a GP-100. But when I tried them in an LCR it locked up on the fifth round and I found a bullet rattling around in the cylinder. I...

    A Variable-Velocity Gun

Here's an interesting less lethal handgun: "The Pogojet is an experimental new weapon that promises a versatile, accurate less-than-lethal solution. The key is a .50 caliber bullet that changes its speed on how far it has to travel, so that the amount of force delivered to the target remains...

Be careful with that case polish

So I was cleaning a bunch of brass and decided to add some case polish to the tumbler. The brass was already in the tumbler but that's not a big deal right? Fortunately I inspected the brass after cleaning and found this: I know it would have caused the powder to overflow the case but...

Oldest M2 machine gun that was still in service

Interesting article about the oldest M2 machine gun that was still in service: http://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htweap/articles/20151203.aspx Just think, that gun could have served in three or four wars!

    New Redhawks in 41 Magnum

I was looking at stuff I can't afford on Davidsons and found this! 41 Redhawks One thing I like about Ruger is that you just never know what they might make. Never would have thought anyone would make new .41 Magnums.

    BE-86 measuring

I have been experimenting with BE-86 powder loading .38 Special. I am using a Hornady Lock N Load Powder Measure in a Lee Load Master. Starting with the pistol drum I was surprised with how poorly the powder measured. Weights varied from 3 to 6 grains, just totally random. I switched to...

Colt Junior - I got a new shiny pony!

My dad bought this 50 years ago as his home defense gun. It's been sitting in a dresser or safe since then. I finally have a gun too nice to shoot! Or maybe too valuable? What do you think it's worth? Considering the cost of .25 ACP it might just sit in my safe.

    Don't cry over spilled powder

Did you know that the powder tube of the Hornady power measure can vibrate itself off? Well it can. Oh, my poor American Select! At least the tube wasn't very full. Item to add to loading check list: Make sure tube is seated.

How bottleneck cartridges work - It's science!

Everyone here probably knows that rifle cartridges are bottlenecked to increase the speed of the bullet. But why does that work? We need simply ask our good friend Daniel Bernoulli. The Swiss scientist born in 1700. He was one of those super genius types. And here is the reason...

357 Snubbie, here comes the BOOM! (and fire rings)

Ever get bored shooting? Need to brighten up the place? I suggest a .357 snubbie: That's 21 grains of Alliant 300MP and a 125 grain Zero jacketed hollow point in a Ruger SP101. Yes, it's a little silly but the recoil is really not that bad. And it's just for fun.:)

Ace Case Pro Shooter bag review

I decide it was time to get a nice range bag. What I needed was: - Capacity to hold three handguns. - Wide enough to hold MTM 50 round boxes. - Pockets for all the little things I need. - Made in the USA. I bought one of these: Ace Case Pro Shooter range bag It comes with...

There is no such thing as clean powder

I noticed posters often ask which is the cleanest powder. I'm not too concerned myself but having less cleaning to would be nice. I lucked into a four pound jug of Alliant American Select. You know the powder that's not just clean it's Ultra-clean! Says so right on the jug.:rolleyes...

    Unexpected results with lead bullets

When I first started reloading I bought a selection of lead bullets for my SP101. I got Missouri Bullets in both 12 and 18 BHN. I loaded the 12 BHN bullets in .38 Special brass with Bullseye or Unique powder and the 18 BHN bullets in .357 Magnum brass with 2400 powder. Everything I tried...

Golden Sabre serious lack of quality control Updated!

Notice anything odd here? Yep, that's a .357 cartridge loaded with .38 Special brass. And no I didn't take it out of the .38 Special box. It came out of the .357 box. And I bet you could load it into a .38 Special revolver and blow it up. I've never been impressed with their ammo but this...

    Poor results with Trail Boss

Poor results with Trail Boss - Problem Solved! I finally managed to get some Trail Boss powder thinking that it would be ideal for some light lead bullet loads in .38 Special for my SP101. I'm using MBC 105 grain bullets, CCI SPP and filled the case to just below the bullet depth. I...
