White River primers showing up in the wild.

White River makes large rifle too. I help a friend out at local gun shows, and he’s been able to get them. They are actually intended for the OEM market, and he has a small ammo manufacturing company, but they are being sold over the counter by people who can get them. Prices are around the same as...

What do have waiting for you in the reloading room?

I have about 50 pieces of 30 HRT brass waiting to be loaded in the morning. And a bunch of range brass that needs sorting and processing. Got my boys and a couple friends coming up in a month or so,for a bachelor party weekend on the lake and at the range, and I’m supplying the ammo and most of...

    Goodbye Unique?

I work at my local gun shows with a friend who sells ammo and components. All Alliant powders have been nonexistent for the last couple years, but we saw some come in last month. Unique,Bullseye,RL -17,and a couple others were available from another booth. The guy running it said it was the first...

444 into a strong bolt action

I know this thread is a month old, with no activity, but I just saw it. My suggestion would be a Siamese Mauser,if you’re looking for a bolt action. They were converted to 45/70 and sold by Navy Arms in the seventies,I believe, and can still be found occasionally. This action can handle the 42,000...

    Dumb Headspace Question

Neck sizing brass from the same chamber should take care of a long chamber, but you’ll have to bump the shoulders back after a few firings. I’d check them with a paper clip each time to make sure you aren’t stretching them too much.

Rifles I'm glad I bought when I had the chance...

Have a handful that come to mind, but my Ruger #1 in 7x57 stands out. Great lines, and a great walking around deer rifle.

    Marlin XT-22MR .22 magnum

My kids bought me an XT-22 Mag stainless a while back. For a factory rifle,I’ve never had a better trigger. It’s accurate too,and a lot of fun at the range.CCI 40 grains shot the best,so far,the Hornady 30 grains, not so much. Still have different ammo to try when it comes available, but this is a...

    Bought me a borescope

A buddy of mine bought a bore scope. Now he’s convinced that every barrel he owns needs to be replaced. He picked up a heavy barreled Savage in 300 WM that he won’t even do any serious load development for. “That barrel’s no good ,I checked it and it’s nothing like the Bartlien I bought!” At...

    amt

It was thrown out a car window in a police chase, when it was recovered. Fortunately,it evidently landed on grass,as there were no serious scratches or damage to it.My thought is it was used in a shooting and the “owner” had someone change out the barrel afterwards.

    amt

I’d love to own the one,but four grand is over my budget, according to my bride. I bought a Hardballer some years back, when they, and the very expensive Randall’s were the only stainless 1911s available. I had a gunsmith friend work it over, but the ejectors are welded in place,so a complete action...

Need advise on .32 ACP dies and reloading

I start loading for the 32ACP not long ago,for a Ruby pistol I was given by a family member. I definitely prefer carbide dies for all pistol and revolver rounds, but they aren’t absolutely necessary. Powder selection is something to research, with ball powder being the smart choice, unless you...

    Climbingstand and Gear

I often leave my stand on the tree overnight and come back before light the next morning. To make it easier to find,I use pieces of reflective tape on each side of the frame. Also, even on private land,a sturdy cable and padlock ensures it will be there when I return. I use a large carabiner on...

    An interesting challenge...

Cast bullets and Trail Boss will be soft shooting, probably just right for gallery type loads. 375 round balls aren’t accurate my 375 Winchester,I’d think .380s sized down might give a little more surface to grip the rifling, and likely better accuracy.

Dang it all! I've done gone and wrecked the bluing

If you have patience, time, and a little mechanical know how,you can do a fine rust blue job at home. You will need to completely disassemble the parts you intend to blue, which is really the hardest part. Brownell’s can sell you everything you need to get it done, but some items like steel wool...

    Deburring flash hole... Worth it?

The idea that a consistent flash hole will help give consistent ignition seems sound. The truth is,there are not many rifles that are able to show a difference in groups by uniforming the flash holes. But many, myself included,do the task anyway, either out of OCD,or because it give a measure of...

Taping the muzzle on a muzzle loader - foul weather

Finger cots,(gundoms) over the muzzle are a good idea for hunting in snow. A fall can quickly put a rifle out of service if the bore gets filed with snow,or mud. I use them on most black powder hunts,as clearing the bore is not as easy as with a bolt gun.

    Tumbling media

I started wet tumbling a while back, and after checking several forums, went with chips. They do a really good job of cleaning the primer pockets, which is what I wanted for my rifle brass. Southern Shine media is where I found mine, they are stainless but still are magnetic. A large, circular magnet...

Rifles that don’t throw their brass a million miles

I forgot about my T/Cs. With no ejection, you don’t even have to bend over to pick up any brass.

Rifles that don’t throw their brass a million miles

My best would be my single shots,Ruger#1&3 and a NEF,along with a Martini. Worst for me was an H&K 93,that chewed the brass up before sending it toward the next zip code. The Mini 14 is easy to tame,I changed the gas block bushing in mine, and it only sends them about eight to ten feet out,and...
