Would it be about the same thing to get a 556 barrel then buy a 22 conversion bolt for it that way I have both options. Is there a difference between the 22 upper and one with a conversion bolt?

I think they have the designs right. Just make the steel harder in the BCG. And trunnions stronger on the stamped guns. That’s about it. But the problem has been going on for a long time it’s seems. Sooo... hmmm?
OP here. My saiga from 2005 shows absolutely zero dings or pings anywhere. I haven’t shot it a ton but definitely over a few thousand. I dump at least 3 or 4 mags through it every range trip and it’s usually wolf or some cheap steel cased stuff. And the saiga is spotless. The c39 after one trip...
Yeah I’m going shoot the crap out of it and post pics in the future. It’s a shame really. With proper metallurgy they would probably be able to make decent stuff.
