The 2A1's are built on a heavier version of the No1Mk3's action. IIRC, they determined the 7.62 round needed a stronger action than for .303 British. Difference in chamber pressures.

Not only too big a rifle for the individual, but also too small. I've been on the receiving end of a too short LOP and didn't like it either. On handloading, you can tailor a load to you and your rifle... more accuracy and less recoil in the same cartridge.

Is the reciever marked "Mod 98" or "Gew 98"? I'm just recalling something I read a long time ago... IIRC, some Gew 98's were rebarreled/restocked as K98's. IMO, a rifle such as yours ought to be taken hunting. If you do, good luck.

I've seen 68's shot from a 1:12 twist... keyholed and patterned like a shotgun at 25yds. In my old 1:9 twist Mini-14, they tore up a business card at 50yds.
