Do you ever show your CCW when asked for photo ID?

The Social Security Administration recommends that you NOT carry your card with you. What second photo ID do people have? My CHL and DL are the only photo IDs that I have.

How many of you have had waning feelings about firearms?

Yes, my interest has waned with the increased prices, even though I'm well stocked up on ammo, I hate to shoot even .22s that I have stockpiled (before the crunch) because I see their replacement costs. My son feels the same way.

Do you ever show your CCW when asked for photo ID?

I did one time at the Walmart pharmacy (buying Sudafed) because I didn't want to give them my driver's license which had my SSN on it at the time. The old biddy freaked out and I was escorted out by four cops. I never mentioned firearm and was not armed at the time.

Plastic gun powder bottles in a house fire.

BTDT, we had our guys moving the powder out. I was up venting the roof. It was an old farmhouse used by our PD for reloading. Some ammo cooked off IIRC. "Hatcher's Notebook" addresses ammo in a fire (as well as powder). Without a barrel to confine the pressures, the brass ruptures long...

    Buds...

FWIW, I ordered an M&P15-22 on December 5. IIRC, Buds stated it should ship in 7 to 11 business days. Last Friday night I received a notice that it was "going to the shipping department." This evening, my local FFL called, it had arrived. All things considered with the current overload...

Attempted armed carjacking at a church in Portland, Oregon

Neverwinter, I think you are fantasizing. Yes, ideal foster parents are great. They are also rare. If you haven't paid attention, there is "family planning" already available and it's been available for a long time. They don't think they need it ("she can't get pregnant"), or they want the...

Attempted armed carjacking at a church in Portland, Oregon

    1) they are not going to get "love and attention" from some child services agency. This needs to come from quality parents. Unfortunately, breeding is much easier than responsible parenting. Too many people who breed have no clue, and no interest, in proper raising of children. 2)...

    Buds...

John, Well said. OTOH, the local dealers around here think a HiPoint is a top of the line gun. Ask them about a Springfield or Kimber and I get a blank look. Don't even think about asking for a Dan Wesson.... The couple of times I've ordered from Buds they shipped within 3-4 days. This...

Attempted armed carjacking at a church in Portland, Oregon

If someone is 11 years old and acts like this and especially has a substantial history of crimes like this, he is probably well beyond anything his parents CAN handle. He is probably that way BECAUSE his parents are incapable. Can ANYONE successfully intervene? I have serious doubts. I...

    Firearm Insurance

When we got the insurance policy, the salesman assured me that the guns were covered. When we reported two stolen, they pointed out the $500 deductible and said that the value of the two guns wasn't worth reporting.... As for a safe preventing theft, how many safes will take more than 5...

Attempted armed carjacking at a church in Portland, Oregon

I have not seen where any "rehabilitation" we do accomplishes anything beyond a "feel good attitude". HOWEVER, my question is still unanswered: "how do we protect society?" I did not say "incarceration", I just asked the simple question "how do we protect society?" I still haven't seen...

    Czech weapons underated?

Not true. Dan Wesson is owned by CZ-USA (which is owned by CZ AFAIK.) One hears a lot of praise and very few complaints about CZ firearms. I've had a CZ-75B (and the Kadet .22 adapter) for 15 years and a CZ-527 carbine for ten. Excellent guns. Ken

Attempted armed carjacking at a church in Portland, Oregon

Kind of jumping ahead of yourself, aren't you? I asked "how do we protect society?" I believe that is a more legitimate question than "how do we help these kids" by itself. If we don't protect society, we haven't helped the "kids" either. However, your "I'll never consider a 7 or 11 year...

Cheap Ammo cans - why not 5 gallon buckets?

Are we talking about storing loose reloaded ammo, or purchased ammo in boxes? I rarely have enough reloaded ammo of one type to make it worthwhile to use surplus ammo boxes. I just store mine in freezer bags (100 rounds/bag) and put a bunch of those into plastic parts bins or small 4 quart...

Bud's is swamped. Apparently they are warning on the website that guns ordered now may not be delivered before Christmas. I placed an order last Wednesday. Friday I received the following (in part):

Attempted armed carjacking at a church in Portland, Oregon

I'm sure that is going to accomplish a lot.... Anyone want to bet the kids were back out on the streets before the cops finished their paperwork? How do you know that someone (besides the kids) committed felonies? Maybe the kids stole the gun. Should the victim of the robbery be locked...

    does a 9mm stress and abuse a frame like a 357 magnum?

It all depends on how well the individual gun is designed and built. Chamber pressure is meaningless without reference to what the gun was built for. Some guns are designed for light duty use, others are built for much higher volume use. I have serious doubts about that.
