I primarily shoot 124gr bullets these days, but for 115gr bullets I had settled on 5.7gr of Power Pistol. It was an almost perfect match for factory 115gr ammo, velocity-wise.
If this is in an AR, you might take a close look at your feed ramps, especially if it's only happening on every other shot. Maybe load just four rounds next time, and see if it happens on the first shot. Pay close attention to which side of the magazine the cartridge is feeding from, to see if...
Here's a question that's been bothering me for a while...
Why is it that you can't download H110 more than 3% when loading magnum pistol cartridges, but can download H110 approximately 50% when loading subsonic ammunition for .300 Blackout?
Now back to your regularly scheduled topic...
I don't think he's saying that he has one round that might be bad, but rather that he suffered from a blackout period while reloading likely due to low blood sugar. Hence, all of the rounds reloaded that day are suspect.
If I'm understanding his post correctly, he is currently making a new...
I'm fairly certain the Barnes brass is from the Remington box that was posted, especially if it was purchased from Walmart as the OP alluded to. I also think you're right about them being too long and jamming into the lands.
I have a few boxes of this ammo myself that I had purchased from...
I personally enjoy using Power Pistol, almost as much as I enjoy using H110! You might want to wear sunglasses if you're going to shoot either one at night, though...
Look at it this way, your self defense ammo now doubles as a signal flare and an incendiary device! :neener:
In all...
I use 5.1 grains of Power Pistol with 124 grain JHP for competition. I haven't tried it with lead bullets yet, but I would say you could safely drop your load down a few tenths and get a much more pleasant load to shoot.
I only notice the white muzzle flash when it's very overcast or near...
Sorry to get everyone started on a tangent regarding case head separation vs. case head rupture. I tried to note that my experience was not a standard case head separation in my original post, but it was easily obscured by the details.
I've never had a complete case head separation while...
I was really torn between the 62 grain and 64 grain version, but ended up going with the 64 grain soft points. If they are what I think they are, they should work perfectly as a general purpose hunting/defense round.
Please be sure and post load data and results as you guys start testing...
I've personally had a catastrophic failure that destroyed an FAL. It was likely a case head rupture, rather than a standard case head separation, but it blew the extractor claw through the side of the receiver and blew the front end completely off the rifle.
I was hit in the arm by the bolt...
I appreciate the bump, as I forgot to follow through with an update.
My best groups with the Hornady FMJ-BT were at 25.0 and 25.8 grains. I decided to go with the 25.0 grain load for practice ammo, to conserve powder and reduce wear and tear. The velocity for the 25.0 grain load also matches...
I like 4.0-4.2 grains of TrailBoss with a 158 gr. LSWC.
As to your original question, the only load that is too light for the .357 is one that doesn't make it out the barrel! Everything else is just a matter of what you're comfortable with, or what your goal is.
At the same velocity perhaps, but you can drive the heavier bullets slower while still cycling the action, which is where the reduced recoil comes into play.
There was a very noticeable difference for me when switching. I was originally getting decent accuracy using Winchester 115 gr. FMJ...
I'd recommend a collet style puller rather than a kinetic hammer due to volume, but I agree with everyone else. You should pull those bullets just to be safe.
I've been down this road myself a time or two. I had one incident loading .45 ACP with Bullseye, and didn't realize that my powder...
I'll be honest, I switched because of herd mentality. I kept reading how great the 124 gr. JHP were for competition, so I decided to try some.
Lo and behold, they actually did shoot better than the 115s, for me at least, so that's what I'll continue to use. I'll still gladly shoot 115s if the...
I wouldn't worry too much about the tips being deformed, I've always heard the base of the bullet had a greater effect on accuracy. Besides, anything you do to deform the tip is minor in comparison to it being smashed into your M4 feed ramps at high speed.
I'd see how they shoot before writing...
Your chamber dimensions have absolutely no bearing when loading for an AR15, unless it's a very tight chamber. You're limited by what will fit in the magazine, which I believe is around 2.260. I'm not sure what you mean by loading them to "2.5". Since you have a bolt rifle and an AR15, you'll...
