    Sprindfield XD Remover rear sight

Measure the dovetail notch. If it's tapered, the sight will drive out the wider end.

    What am I doing wrong?

Right here: COAL is set to plunk, not to the manual. And not to a chamber gauge either, unless it's the chamber gauge installed on the back of the barrel.

    Who needs 357 Dainty?

Oof. . . that kind of stung. . . Until I noticed you stopped shy at .44 RemMag. Not man enough for the .45 Ruger Only loads? My 350gr cast .45 Colt loads would knock that tender touchy feely Smith action out of time in a box or two. It'll also blow out any loose eyebrow hairs you haven't...

Setting Up a FL Sizing die...?

The case didn't grow longer than the die upon first firing. This indicates a reasonable snug chamber, and a not-too-short die. Neck size only and refire that one piece of brass until it grows out, then measure it. . . but it's likely you're better off just gently camming over and working on...

    Rebarreling a Remington 700

I think you missed the difference between a shouldered (Remington style), and a shank-and-nut (Savage style) barrel. RemAge barrels bring the shank-and-nut system onto the Remington actions. Dude! After tipping a several-hundred-pound bench onto two legs trying, I sacrificed the recoil lug and...

    problem with an AR-type rifle

Nothing happens, unless something else is so far gone that a failure is incipient. The difference between .223Rem and 5.56NATO is real in SAAMI vs CIP, but the effect size is basically a rounding error. The hottest compliant 5.56NATO in the shortest .223Rem chamber might produce some excessive...

Lost My Cool at Range Today

And so did they, and therein lies the problem. Was anyone present equiped with information (like "the range rules say. . .") or was everyone assuming? At my range, you would be reprimanded for asking a member to touch a firearm while the range was cold, and 'they' would be in perfect...

Rifle barrel burst; are cold hammer forged barrels stronger than others?

I don't believe there's any reason to think that a hammer forged vs cut rifling barrel will survive a barrel obstruction any better. Firing a round into a barrel obstruction is not a meaningful test of barrel quality; no barrel you can buy will survive. Maybe a full bull profile barrel won't...

    Rebarreling a Remington 700

Or. . . Buy a Remage barrel (several makers, I used Criterion through Northland), nut, wrench, and a headspace gauge, and do it yourself.

    6.5 .284 Norma Chamber issues

Everything effects accuracy. . . but I'm confident you can't shoot the difference with a Savage. It will effect brass life as @gotboostvr said, but not too bad if you're thoughtful with the shoulders. Now, if the issue also cut the neck/throat/lead off-centic, that will tell

    6.5 .284 Norma Chamber issues

I have a Ruger M77 that exhibits the same behavior. After extensive measurement and experimenting, I finally found that the chamber is slightly egg shaped. I made a die set to fully resize the body without excessively setting the shoulders back. You should mark an azimuth on a fired case, and...

Asking for a Friend (stuck suppressor on rifle)

Kroil (or ATF & acetone), heat, and a good wrench (or non-maring strap wrench). I've never seen a heat and Kroil soak fail if the threads weren't already badly galled.

    Life expectancy of 38spl brass

A split case is not dangerous, in and of itself. In theory, if you could somehow load a cartridge with the bullet barely hanging on, then dump it out into the forcing cone, and leave it there to block the next round like a squib. . . but I'm not sure it's possible.

    Life expectancy of 38spl brass

Mouth and body splits is how .38Spl brass should die, so that's normal. As for cycles to failure, it's very dependent on the gap between your chamber and sizing die, and slightly dependent on pressure. If it's failing in 4 cycles, somethings probably too big or small. And as you're handling the...

    Really disappointed

Clean (denatured alcohol or acetone), Heat (hairdryer, heatgun, oven), Apply while Scrubbing gently (degreased 0000 steel wool), and repeat. You'll get there, but it does take a minute. I think you can get darker than that with heat, but you won't achieve Colt Royal Blue.

Don't drop the slide on an empty chamber (Mas Ayoob video)

The slide is slowed down significantly by stripping a cartridge off the magazine and chambering it. Without that braking mechanism, the slide runs into battery much faster, and the hammer hooks are dropped onto the sear harder. Then the fun starts. . . the slide's forward momentum carries the...

    Strange explanation at the range.

BS. Pretty high grade too. If the range jig doesn't work out that guy can get a job as some felon's press secretary. They disallow steel case ammo because it adulterates their feedstock of brass. While there is a fire hazard caused by unburnt powder accumulating, ignition is far more likely to...
