Where can I find 6-64 screws?

I've got a Nighthawk/Marvel .22 conversion kit that uses an Elliason rear sight like the early Gold Cup 1911's. I'd like to put a Fastfire mount on it in place of the rear sight, using the hole for the rear sight elevation screw. From everything I can tell, it's a 6-64 thread (looks like 8...

Cleaner .38spl HBWC light load to use in .357 mag gun?

I'm wondering what I could change with my standard indoor PPC load to make it shoot cleaner in a 4" 686. I'm using Zero 148gr HBWC over 2.3gr of Winchester Super Target (yes, it's a bunny fart load) that works very well in my 6" PPC gun (clean, accurate, not very smokey), but leaves a lot of...

What's your method for disposal of used tumbling media?

I've searched for the answer to this, I really have. I'm also not trying to rekindle the perpetual "is it safe/unsafe" discussion. I choose to take reasonable steps to minimize potential risks. If you don't, so be it. Having said that, when do you decide to change your tumbling media and...

Refinish 1942 1911A1 frame or not?

Here's the deal. I've got a Colt G.I. frame that dates to 1942, that was part of a mongrel 1911A1 given to me by my late Uncle. It was built up from a mixture of left over surplus parts, so there's no collector value to speak of. The frame itself is in usable but worn condition with a lot of the...

    Hornady 9mm HAP 121gr. vs. 125gr.

I just started reloading for 9mm, successfully so far, and I have a question. Can anyone tell me why Hornady makes 9mm HAP bullets in both 121gr. and 125gr. Is there more to it than just a 4 gr. difference?

OAL tolerance for classic .38 wadcutter load

I'm loading a bunch of the classic .38 special target load, 148gr dual bevel base wadcutter over 2.7 gr of Bullseye. After all my experimenting, it's still the best load in my S&W revolver. Imagine that. All those shooters over the past 50 or so years were right... My question is, just how bad...

Another reality check re: burn rate

Just checking to see if my thinking is correct. From looking at various load data I get the impression that, in general, for a given bullet weight, case, primer, using the same gun, you'd use less of a faster powder than you would of a slower powder to attain the same velocity. Is that correct...

Gun shops in Grand Rapids, MI area

Hopefully this type of post is permissible, but if not, I hope the mods will delete it or tell me to... I'm going to be in the Grand Rapids area this Friday and Saturday and was wondering if anyone can recommend some good shops in the area.

Question for a Hornady LnL AP owner

I should be receiving a new LnL AP tomorrow and I want to make a mounting block for it tonight to stiffen the table I'll be using. I know the mounting bolts are 5/16", but I need to know the center to center spacing of the holes and the width of the mounting plate on the frame. Thanks!

Any real difference between RCBS 505 and 502 scales?

I know the 505 is a 3 poise and the 502 is a two poise, but are there any other significant differences? They're in the same price range, cover the same weight range, look to be built about the same, look to operate about the same. At this point I'm only loading .38 special target loads in the...

Checking my (limited) understanding of bullet seating depth

From what I've learned so far, I get the impression that , in loose terms and within a reasonable range, seating a bullet less deep is roughly analogous to using less powder in terms of net effect on velocity, recoil, etc. However, as with most things I'm learning about reloading, I'll bet...

light .38 Spl target load with plated HBWC?

I've found that my 6" PPC revolver really likes 1.8gr of Bullseye behind a Speer 148gr HBWC (for indoor PPC). I've got some Berry's plated HB wadcutters that I want to try, but based on the info from Berry's, it sounds like it's bad to use them for light loads. "When loading for these...

    .38Spl vs +P vs. +P+ brass

I was given a box of several thousand .38 Special cases that I'm starting to sort through. I've sorted out all the Federal and Winchester brass and am starting on the nickel plated cases. I'm finding a lot of +P and +P+ cases and was wondering if the cases are different from regular .38 Special...

.38 Spl wadcutter expanding, seating and case charging questions

My current setup is a stock Lee Pro1000 (say what you will, it's all I have and for the most part I like it) with .38/.357 dies and Pro Auto Disk. I like the Pro1000 but have lost faith in the priming and charging functions and am having expanding and seating issues. With Speer 148gr. HBWC's...
