    Favorite 25 Cal?

I have a 25-06 since 2009 . I have only used it on feral pigs and white tails. 117 grain Sierra Game Kings have turned out to be “ the Hammer of Thor” on Whitetails . Both Bambi and feral Hogs have both been “bang flops” in every case that I have used my 25-06 since 2009. Your mileage may vary...

    Pacemaker & Rifles

Good question. I used to with A Cardiology group up until 2004. The shooting of high powered rifles never made the list of short term or long term concerns when my docs would consult potential patients. Two of the group took guided big game hunts to Africa as well as the Rockies every year. One...

A Rifle For Large North American Animals

With proper shot placement ………… a lot of calibers might be enough , 🤔🤔 but the 30-06 is a no brainer … 👍

    Lever action 17 HMR

They may be blued now , but mine was purchased in 2008??…or so, and the receiver was painted. I am certain that Henry offers more than one model , so it is entirely possible that it comes in both blued steel a painted. Yes I scoped it. Henry actually offered an aftermarket scope mount for it.

    Lever action 17 HMR

I had a Henry 17 HMR . It was called the Varmit Express by Henry. I has been in the hands of my grandson for 7 years now. It was a tube fed lever gun. The action was smooth, and it was very accurate if a I did my part. I considered it a “head shot only” squirrel rifle. The Hornady 17 gr...

    .22LR vs .22 WMR?

About 30 years ago I was sitting at the base of a big Oak tree with my oldest son . He was in possession of my Marlin 39a 22lr, and I was carrying 22mag just to back him up on his squirrel hunt. He had taken a few , but nothing for the past hour or so……and we were hanging out at the base of that...

The Best .22 Sporter Rifles For Hunting Squirrels

The …”Best”… 22lr for squirrel hunting ……… Hmmmm probably lies at the intersection of “the one you enjoy shooting the most”…… and “ consistently accurate with” …… like many earlier posters have said just use the one you have the most fun with ………. .

    New fangled glass sighting device.

Welllllll:( …… Due to old eyesight nearly everything that I use for “target “ shooting wears some form of glass. I even have one of my lever action 22’s wearing a scope. ( period correct of course );) All of my hunting centerfires wear glass. ( I do everything I can to make certain of one shot...

    30/30 revisited

Most of my white tails have been harvested by a lever action 30/30. Over half my feral pigs have been band/flops by 170 gr 30/30. There is no real NEED for anything larger than a 30/30 in the lower 48 . Many will yell at me for saying that, but I have never had to track a deer shot with my...

    Picked this one up tonight

Getting some gunsmiths to drill and tap an (old lever gun ) for a scope mount base can sometimes be a chore . I had an idea to do a one ring mount for a pistol scope. My gunsmith philibustered for 30 minutes telling me it was never going to work. Finally I guess he decided that I was crazy, but...

    Picked this one up tonight

Mr. Olsen , Congratulations on you new 39a . I also have a J- prefix 1952 model. It has slowly become my favorite squirrel rifle. Marlin received the patent for the micro-groove process in 1953. However because the had so many pre-produced barrels the microgroove stamped barrels didn’t really...

    Your Favorite Rifle

Welllllll …………… when you consider that 95% of my shooting is 22lr ( maybe more if you think about the actual round count sent down range ) I would have to give the nod to one of my Marlin 39a’s .

    Marlins 39A

I love my Marlin 39a’s . So much so that I have set out on a quest to amass enough to leave one to each of my grandchildren. My 14,13, & 12 year olds are already big fans, and have begun to whisper to me which guns they would like to have from PawPaw’s collection My 1952 Marlin is a...

    Is PPU 30-30 decent?

I have ran about 3 twenty round boxes of PPU 30-30 through my Marlin 336 with no hiccups. I do not know how to reload , so I gave the brass to my BIL. Those three boxes fed well and were accurate enough. They were cheaper than my other brands , so I used it to let my grandsons get used to the...
